My kids got it years ago from an 2 adopted cats their grandpa brought home. This was years ago so maybe things have changed but the vet dipped the cats in this horrid smelling medication and that took care of the cats immediately.
For the girls it took a little longer. One thing that I use and think it rules for a number of things is Tea Tree Oil. Here is a website but I'm sure there are plenty of others.

Yea, it's lime sulfide dip or something like that. The vet used a UV lamp and didn't see any active fungus, so she told us to use the cream and wipes. It did clear up pretty quick on the cat!
Just we had to sterilize everything we touched, I washed everything on super hot...
I thought about using tea tree oil, but I'm pretty sure I'd have to go to a health store, and it's just out of my way across into another city.

Try your local drug store . . . you might have to ask where it is because it's in such a tiny bottle but they will have it. I've even found it at the beauty supply store.
Another thought Colloidal Silver. Yes this is the stuff that turns you blue but you'd have to drink gallons of it. I use it every day just to keep the doctor away (21 drops). This would be a little more difficult to find but the health store will have it or you can order it online.
