Just freeze it foo. Nick is right, they slowly fall asleep, as the temps drop below 50 or somethin like that. If you were really "sad" about this whole thing, you would have froze them hours ago like everyone here said to do.

I'm so sorry to hear about your baby Chase13. If I were in your shoes I would use a combination of methods. The problem with the CO2 chamber method is that reptiles do not use nearly as much air as mammals, so this is not nearly as affective for them and takes a very long time. What I did once when I had to put down a deformed crested hatchling was to place it in a mini-CO2 chamber for several minutes in order to hopefully take away any pain (the CO2 has a numbing affect) to prep it for freezing, and then I put it in the freezer in order to finish the job. I don't really know how affective the CO2 really was, but as least it helped me to feel better about it.

If you read the entire thread before posting, I said earlier I won't do this. I want its death to be as comfortable as possible, and by how much bp.net stresses on keeping temps dead on for the comfort(and other things) of the snake, I don't see how the freezer is an accepted form. The death aspect is just as important as the life IMO.

If you already decided what is wrong and what is right then what is the point of this thread?

Not quite enough yet.. The animal is way over an hour old, and still suffering.. It could have been over and done with by now, But somebodey feels bad for it and wants it to suffer 10 more days before he can make up HIS LITTLE mind on what to do with said Animal.. Poor thing!! And I wouldnt chop its head off, That was a joke like I said. But It would go in the freezer the minute it hatched.

Exactly. If you are going to breed, be man enough to deal with the consequinces. If you are so certain based on your expertise that it needs an immediate death, in fact so certain that the situation is so critical that it wouldn't even make sense to post a pic for an experienced second opinion... Why is the dam thing still suffering? How many days do you plan to make it suffer so you have time to determine a suitable death that you can live with?

I also suggest the CO2 chamber. However, I once heard that because rodents breath at a faster rate than reptiles, they fall asleep faster due to the drop in oxygen and die in their sleep whereas a reptile breaths slower and would suffer from the effects of deadly levels of CO2. But this is probably more humane than the freezer.

Sorry this has happened and I hope for a quick and painless passing for the little guy.

Yes, me not chucking it into the freezer makes me not sad at all. You are so intelligent and helpful. I wasn't presented with any info on the effects of the freezer method until NOW so why would I have made any action until asking on here, like the forum is meant for.

Where did I say anything about being certain it needs an immediate death??? When I said "i won't keep it alive", I was implying that I wont try and raise the animal. And again, the animal isn't suffering.

You should take it to your vet OR animal control facility and have them put it to sleep with the same chemicals they use to put a dog or cat down...
I had a rooster get horribly mauled by a pit bull I drove it to an animal control place and paid them to put it down.
I hope you can let us know what you decided to do. but its 9:44 my time so I know time is of the essence.
