Pat, yes it's a movie. You know that and I know that, and I know that particular snake was not harmed during filming. That's all fine and dandy. I didn't stand up and shout at the screen.

But there were young kids going to see that movie, and as some of us have read in another recent post, kids tend to do stupid things when it comes to animals. Particularly animals they're ill-informed about. Particularly snakes...

Kids are impressionable. They're going to see that and think it's "heroic" or "cool". And since most parents are afraid of snakes, who's to tell them otherwise?

It's not the movie scene I'm concerned about. It's the "brilliant ideas" it's going to inspire in the minds of young impressionables.

I think you've mistaken stupid for impressionable. There is a big difference between the two.

I also think they called the snake in the movie a ratsnake and as far as I could tell, it was a rubber snake, not a live one.

I haven't seen the movie yet. However from what was described it doesn't sound like that big of deal.. it is just a movie.

The things that bug the crap out of me are the shows like Jackass, and their movies, and wildboyz. The things they do with some animals including snakes are not only very stressful for the animals, but just flat out stupid, and sometimes extremely dangerous.

Not saying that they should ban the shows. That is why they have movie ratings, and "viewer discretion advised" warnings.

It boils down to parents disciplining their kids, and actually paying attention to what they are doing and or watching.. Adult Supervision, and common sense is something a lot of people lack now a days.

Anyway back to the movie, is it worth paying to go to the theater? Or should I wait for it to come on Netflix or PPV?

IMO.... not trashing yours, but to me from what I have seen it's adults that do far more stupid things then kids.... just my 2c

I just hate when snakes are misrepresented in movies period. It has nothing to do with what people are going to do when they see it or whatever. To me, it just ruins the movie when I see that (unless the whole point of the movie isnt in any way serious or realistic to begin with) Talking alien snakes are ok with me but stuff like snakes on a plane isnt. That movie sucked because they made non-venomous snakes into super-agressive venomous killers...

To be honest, my original post said "stupid" in place of "impressionable". But I changed it because I thought it might be read wrong and offend someone. I wanted to say "stupid" so we can happily change it back to that now. -lol-

Anyway, you guys don't have to get worked up over it, and I wouldn't really say that I am, either. A little upset, yes, but not enough to fight with you guys. If you're not concerned then that's your business and I couldn't care less.

As for the movie, ... eh. It was good, albeit a little far-fetched. Not nearly as good as the original three, but I think H. Ford did the best he could with the script they gave him. So far, the opinions I've gotten on the movie are either "I hated it. They ruined Indiana Jones!" or "Eh..." So, mayhaps you'll want to wait for video.

The movie is a fun to watch movie, although not as good as the original. Regardless of it being a rubber snake, I'd hate to see anyone manhandle a snake of that size. Recently we had a python nailed to a telephone pole. Is that the act of a normal person? Someone who can do that, is capable of even sicker stunts.

Maybe I will wait for it to come out on video. I haven't heard the best reviews about it lol.

Everyone has said it was kind of cheesy compared to the original three.

Have you seen "No Country For Old Men". There is a bunch of killin in that movie! Im sure these things have been thought about before. Its like sayin the kids shot columbine becuase of video games.

Be real here. I was a kid once, and I saw some whack stuff on tv. Did I shoot anyone? Did I go rob a bank? kill a cop? No, I didnt.

This is a really good point, Pat. I remember I wasn't allowed to play Mortal Kombat when I was little because my parents were worried I would tear someones head off their body with their spine still attached.

I think the thing that separates scenes like in Indiana Jones from murder/violence on TV is that most people KNOW the latter is wrong. But when a kid sees cruelty towards a reptile on TV, something in that gray area may be passed by as "OK", and can so contribute to a general phobia or disregard towards reptiles in the general public.

When was the last time a reptile was portrayed positively in a movie? I can't even think of one....
