Cajun And Butter Het Cajun

From what the offspring look like, I would say the mom is co-dom and not domanite.

When we had her we also had proven line het reds at the same time as she looked just like them. We bought her as a c.h het red, and from what I have personally seen she is a very good looking example of a new line of het red/ or something new but not a super.

Both parents give characteristics to the offspring just like with people so the non Cajun babies can have some of the moms coloration without being Cajun's. A very nice combo, just as I thought it would be when we first talked about it, with a lot of potential.

Can't wait to see a butter het Cajun x your secret boy, or a spicy sputter???

Randy -- Based on reading your posts on genetics I would have to defer to you in almost all matters in that rather complex area. You know your stuff!!!

The 3 non-Butters in the clutch are all black backs and are VERY similar to each other in belly markings, head markings/blushing, and overall color -- and DON"T look like a "Normal" that would likely have come from either side of the gene pool -- Butter dad or Cajun mom if mom was not Homozygous for her trait.. They are DARKER(less red tones) than mother -- just like Het Reds are darker than Red Axanthics.

4 of the 5 combos are black backs. The combo that has a more traditional Butter pattern DOES have the color tones of the other combos.

Above is my long-winded attempt at saying we agree. Your are right in that I could just be lucky and hit on all 8!!! Some snakes/projects are not completely understood in one generation -- this is clearly one of them. I'll see what happens with them next season and keep everyone abreast of any developments. It likely could be. But I am not comfortable calling it that out of respect to Cory Woods, and due to the fact that I don't know whether it will make a "Red Axanthic". Unless a captive hatched snake is an Albino, Pastel, Ghost, Yellow Belly or any other visually obvious morph, a new name is the way to go in most cases.

Bristen, you can bet that if I would have posted her as a "Het Red" without any qualification I would have gotten some grief over it.

I have a Woods line Het Red female that should be ready next season. I plan to breed her to the Butter Het Cajan to see whether they are compatable. Also, one of the Butter Het Cajans back to mom to see whether there is a super in my line. It will take a couple of clutches to find out for sure what is going on with her.

A Butter X established Het Red has not been done. I would be interested to see the results and compare to my girl. Maybe someone is working on that this year? Thanks to everyone for their interest.

I understand your concern... I bumped into a similar situation a few years ago when I hatched a special pastel cross a few years ago.. the dark mother was named "Espresso" and the cross I simply called "Espresso x Pastel". I'm trying to line breed this year... so we'll see what the super is!

Looks like you've got a great plan setup. As for butter x het red, I don't think it's been done yet. However, Corey Woods has produced quite a few lesser x het reds I believe... they look similar to your butter x cajun crosses in my opinion (which ain't worth much lol!)

Thanks Corey. My guys are just coming out of a shed. I would love your opinion on them. I see the whole clutch as possibly being Het for Cajun. There is 1 Butter that is not a black back, but seems to have the same coloration as the Butter Hets. I'll post some pics in the next couple days. Can't wait to grow the 2 boys up for next season!!!

I think what you have is worth proving out. To say one way or another is too tough and you won't know for sure until you prove them out anyways. I think you have a worth while project though.
