    Re: Australian Snakes?

Why the uncertainty about IJ's being Aussie? (I've never heard of them, by the way, so I wouldn't have a clue.)
Do you mean they're native to other countries as well?

    Re: Australian Snakes?

Irian Jaya carpets are native to the western half of New Guinea. The provinces on the island have gone through a lot of name changes, so people may refer to these carpets as Irian Jayas or West Papuan.

I have one Coastal carpet (Morelia spilota mcdowelli) and will be getting a new hatchling Green Tree python (Morelia viridis) hopefully very soon.

    Re: Australian Snakes?

I recently purchased a male Children's Python hatchling and just today found someone at a show that has eggs in the incubator and expects them to hatch in about a month. I plan to get a female from him. That's the only Aussie snake that I have.

    Re: Australian Snakes?

Australian snakes are one of my passions, so I have quite a few!

Currently out of my 30 or so snakes I have:

    1.1 Centralian pythons (Morelia bredli)
1.1 Coastal carpet (Morelia spilota mcdowelii)
    1.0 Woma (Aspidities ramsayi)
1.0 granite phase spotted python (Antaresia maculosa)
    1.0 Macklot's python (Liasis macklotti)

I also have 3.2 Irian Jaya carpets (M. spilota harrisoni) which have a distinct resemblance to the Darwin carpets (M. spilota varigata). I do SO wish we had some Darwins in the States! Though there are many Aussie pythons in the US, we only have what made it over before export was stopped from Oz.

Welcome to the site, you might want to check out the Morelia forum a bit further down on the main page, and also the Other Pythons forum.

    Re: Australian Snakes?

i have mostly carpet pythons in my collection... they can't be exported/imported from australia anymore, but since they (and many other aussie snakes) are so easy to breed, they're readily available.
congrats on the imbricata, wish we had those in the states!
