Australian Snakes?
G'day guys. I'm new here.
I was trawling through Google, trying to find info on ways to kill snake food humanely, when I came across this site.
Haven't had time to look at many posts, but it seems like a great place. Heaps of members, which can only mean a great wealth of info and experience.
I haven't owned a reptile yet. I can't say I 'own' the many lizards and geckos who roam in and around my house quite freely.
I've wanted a snake for 9 or 10 years. Finally the herp-keepng laws have changed in Western Australia (they're much more relaxed in the Eastern states) and I've saved up some money.
So I've put a deposit on a morelia spilota imbricata (South West Carpet python). The dealer is coming back from his holiday in New Zealand tomorrow, so I should have my baby nakie soon.
My question is - do any of you guys have Australian snakes?
I have no idea about the import laws over there, so the answer to my question may be a quick, "uh... No!". Ha ha.
Ooo, I see you have a Tasmanian Devil in your smilies, so I'll just sneak one in.

Aah! That's better. Bless 'im.
Anyway, nice to meet you, folks.
I look forward to lots of advice, info and chatter.

Re: Australian Snakes?
I know there are several people here with some Australian species. I for one would love an olive python. I think that may be my step into large snakes sometime in the future.

Jees, that was quick! I wasn't considering the time difference - I suppose you're all awake over there. lol
I didn't know Ball Pythons were Australian, never heard of 'em. As you can see, I'm new to this game.
Now Womas I've definately heard of, cos they're native to WA. We're only allowed to keep reptiles that are native to WA, unlike other states.
I only have a category 3 lisence, so my choice is limited to SW Carpets and Stimson Pythons.
I've heard only great things about Olive Pythons. I've seen photos, and they're gorgeous!
Well that answers my question about having Oz snakes in US then. Ha ha.
Thanks for the quick response guys, and the welcome.
Do you know if anyone here has a SW Carpet? Probably not, cos they're not on the 'most wanted' list of exotic snakes, but if there is someone, I'd love to swap stories when I get my little girl.

Sorry to mislead you, but no, ball pythons (python regius) are not Australian, but rather west African (Ghana, etc.). =)
I don't know anything about carpets other than they're gorgeous! But...welcome!

Re: Australian Snakes?
I've got a Jungle/Diamond Carpet Python, and a pair of Irian Jayas. I suppose the IJs aren't technically aussie snakes. Oh, and a Spotted Python as well.
