    Re: Helix or Herpstat

I have had big problems with Helix. I am not sure if it is just my outlet but it would give me an error message and then turn off. This was after a couple months of me having to set the temps at 110F to get 90F in the tank. Annoying. It "tested" fine with their light bulb test, but somehow couldn't regulate two tubs...it made me VERY angry.
I got rid of it and bought a herpstat.

We have two Herpstats and we've been quite pleased with them. Dion also provides excellent customer service. =)

Do you want a mercedes or a bmw?

They are both good functioning thermostats and each have their own advantages, disadvantages, and niether have been completely immune to defects.

Both companies offer great customer support as well.

I use both and am happy with the performance of each of them.

I have a Herpstat 2 and the only thing I would improve is the visibility. I can barely see the Display on it. Other than that it has been running almost 2 years for me with no problems!

    Re: Helix or Herpstat

I've been using Herpstat II's for a quite a while. I am not that far away from sypder robotics, so it's easy for me to pick one up. In several years of using the Herpstat II's, I did have one side fail off, which is rather unusual, but I will be taking it to GLK herp to be looked at this weekend. (No real harm was done..the side that failed happened to be controlling the temps on a gopher snake).

I have both: Helix and Herpstat 2. Brad said it best; Porsche or Lamborghini? Both are great. Frankly, I'd take the Porsche. But for t'stats, either one will do the job.

    Re: Helix or Herpstat

Hey I just had a quick question, do the Herpstat ND or the basic Herpstat allow you to control multiple enclosures at once? I only have one BP right now but I see myself having multiple in the future and I'd like to be able to get something now that will meet my needs for a while. Thanks guys

I believe you need Verizon to receive text messages. I haven't tried with e-mail yet

    Yes and No.
You can control multiple racks if they are the SAME rack...same heat source, same size tubs, etc.

However, if you have like an adult rack and a baby rack, then you would want to step up to the Herpstat II because it has two outputs. You would need one probe for each rack, and then the heating element for each rack would plug into each outlet in the Herpstat II.

I have a Herpstat PRO controlling a Juvy rack, an adult rack, and an incubator right now.

I'm sticking with Herpstat because of the great customer service. Dion is the man.
