Know of a good Hygrometer?

I have the Acurite unit in each cage and tub. The one's in the cages are fine since the snakes have the space to cruise around each night.
The one's in the tubs, however, get knocked into the water dish, get pee'd and poo'd on, and generally seem less reliable the longer I have them.
Since I have a laser temp gun, I use the Acurite to measure ambient temps and humidity.
Does anyone know of a reliable and sturdy hygrometer?

What I have done recently with my accurites in my tubs is used a small zip-tie (not sure what they are really called) to hold them in place. On the back of the accurite where you put the battery in, there is a notch where you can hang it, well I have left the battery cover off and put a small zip tie through there (there's an opening) and run the zip tie through the holes I've soldered in my tubs. Has been working well for me so far, I just had to replace an accurite that stopped working (I think my girl pee'd on it..) and that can be a little annoying.

So, I don't understand how this works. If it doesn't live inside the tub, then when I go to take the measurement the humidity has already dropped as soon as I open the tub....
Can you explain to me how you get accurate readings?

I'm more of a set it and forget it kind of girl myself - I set the racks up - measure temps and humidity - and then I'm done - I dont keep a hygrometer in each and every tub - I kind of judge my tweaking on what the snakes are telling me they need. I do have a thermostat/hygrometer that I keep an eye on in the snake room - if the humidity dips beyond a certain point then I will turn up the humidifier or spritz the cages if needed.

For my egg boxes I use a thermometer hygrometer by Flukers ($14 at LLL) in each box - they are small can stick on a wall and are really accurate but I'm not sure if a full grown ball would be able to pull it off the wall or not. Bean Farm has a thermometer hygrometer that takes both measurements at the probe (first one I've seen that does that) - I've thought about giving it a try - but I think they are asking $30 or so for it so I'm not sure I really need to spend that for what I'd be using it on - but it might work for your purposes.

Otherwise - I'm sure you can find a way to wire the Accurite ones to your tubs!

I use industrial strength velcro on the backs of my Acurites to stick them to the backs of the tubs and tanks. I also keep my water dishes at the front of the enclosure away from the meters in case they are pulled down (which my pastel loves to do).

That tie idea has merit, but I don't like the idea of having the battery exposed in a high humidity environment...

I thought about the battery being exposed too, but while thinking about it, because of that hole in the back of the accurite, the battery is already slightly exposed anyway. And I haven't seen any corrosion or anything in batteries in them before I started zip tying them, but we'll see how this goes. I just started it about a week or so ago, and have a ton of the little zip ties, so I was planning on just replacing the ties everytime I scrubbed out the tubs. This way I'll just keep an eye on the batteries and on the functioning of the accurites themselves (I always keep extras around anyway) and see how that goes. If it becomes a problem, maybe I'll get some of that press and seal stuff and try covering the battery area with that. I wonder if that stuff would stick to the accurites?

Put it in the tub locked on and let it sit there for an hour or two. If humidity is good move on to the next. We test each enclosure a couple times a month. If your enclosures are tubs in a nicely enclosed rack you should be good to go as long as you maintain an overall room humidity of around 50%.

I have my humidity where its at and leave it. I check it once a week if its off a bit I fix it. I Just dont see myself putting one in each tub. Waste of money if you ask me. The room my snakes are in stays at anywhere from 50% to 60%.

That's what I do too. My girl is still small (400ish g) but she sometimes would climb on top of the accurite and just hang there- with no effect on the velcro hold
that said, once I saw that she had somehow knocked off the battery cover (which is on the back, against the wall of the tank of course) and the batteries were loose.
