    Cameroon Breeder?

    Hi All,
I recently came a cross an ad somewhere for a Ball Python breeder out of Cameroon. His prices were excellent and he has stuff I'm interested in. He says his snakes are all captive bred and that each comes with vet papers certifying the animal's good health. My problem is that I'm new to the hobby and it's my experience that if something sounds too good to be true, it is. This of course goes doubly for anything even remotely connected to teh intarwebz.

So what I'm wondering is, since I can't immediately recall the name of the breeder or find his site again, is does anyone have anything to say for or against any particular breeders from that part of the world? I mean is Cameroon to ball python breeding as Nigeria is to e-mail spam bank fraud?

As a secondary nota bene, if anyone's ever gone this route before, what's shipping a ball likely to cost from Cameroon to Canada?

Any and all input is welcome.

    Thanks in advance,
    D

I would suggest not going thru them, as it is VERY likely a scam.

There are plenty of reputable breeders in Canda.

Agreed, I believe there was a thread just recently. One of our members and Admins had gotten the same Email. It is a very big old scam. I wouldn't put any money towards him.

I'll go see if I can find the thread for you

There is a recent Cameroon scam with a guy claiming that he was on work assignment there and is looking for homes for his various morphs in which you may have the snakes for the cost of shipping which is $200. Does that sound familiar? He mostly advertises on free sites such as Craigslist.

    Thanks All

This whole thing reminded me of the major danger of international independent trade, which is that in most cases there are no laws to protect and no recourse for a scammed buyer when dealing internationally.

There are trade finance systems in place, but generally you need to be dealing in much bigger figures than the price of a pair of pieds to make it worthwhile for the fairly long chain of financial institutions you need to deal with.

In any case, thanks for the reality check. It's hard not to get a little starry eyed when you see a deal that looks as good as that one did.

    Respect,
    Dan

    Re: Cameroon Breeder?

    Scam no doubt about it.
In order to export any animals you need cities and NO ONE is going to ship 1 animal for a cities order, the freight would be insane. Freight starts at a flat rate of x $ and goes up after a certain weight. When morphs are imported they come in with 100's of other animals, from monitors, chameleons, scorpions, to balls, and sand boas. Everything comes into the importer then he distributes the animals to everyone else.
When a new morph is brought in it comes with all the other animals to make the order worth while for the shipper overseas.

Avoid these cheap morph Cameroon "dealers" like the plage!
