I built a whole new computer just to be able to play some of the higher-end PC games that were coming out a few years ago. In fact, I'm seriously considering building another, as the requirements for many of the upper-level games are such that my current computer (amazing as it still is, even a few years old) isn't quite up to snuff. (I'm talking about running the games on the maxed out settings, graphics, etc. My current computer can still play them on slightly lower settings, but I want all the bells and whistles!)
It can be addictive.

*flees!*
I know what you mean. I built a crazy computer a few years back when I was doing special effects for a film, but now it's pretty weak compared to my newer one. I have my PS3 and computer hooked up with a 32" 1080i LCD and 6.1 surround. I read that panel prices are going to plummet in '09, so I'm waiting until that happens to upgrade to a 42".
