That's a great idea and all, but people have already stopped spending money on those other things. This decrease in consumer spending is why the dollar continues to devalue, pushing us into a recession, and raising gas, food, and consumer good prices even more.

Re: Gas prices??? What are we to do??

I pretty much spend money on nothing other than bills, food, and my animals! Of course I count gas for the dog van as a pet related expense... almost the only places I drive are the dog park and the dog beach and the pet food store. I have cut out entirely going visiting to see friends and family unless absolutely necessary because of gas prices.

Unfortunately, in doing so, the money in your pocket would continue to devalue, so you would still have less, and while in shape, you wouldn't really be able to afford food for yourself and your family.

Re: Gas prices??? What are we to do??

We could have a national "don't buy gas" day?

Or just buy gas as little as possible.

But basically there's nothing really that we can do, unless people start making more and more cars that are more efficient but other than that we're Fu:cens0r:

Re: Gas prices??? What are we to do??

I absolutely can't complain about gas prices. They're not as bad here as everywhere else. And this is coming from somebody who drives an 88 Lincoln with a 302 and is technically unemployed. I average 20mpg around town and 24-26 on the highway. My car was a gift three years ago so no car payment, and my insurance is super cheap here in NH. My boyfriend lives on an island in Nova Scotia where he also works, and is paying over $5 a gallon for gas, costing nearly 90 bucks for a fillup. I have a BJ's membership and get a 10-20 cent discount on my gas there. Fillup is less than 50 bucks and I get over two weeks out of it. Right now I don't have a "real" job, but I do side jobs (signs and pinstriping) and I just charge a little extra for travelling. I really, really can't complain...

Re: Gas prices??? What are we to do??

Right now I only make enough money in the month to pay rent, my animals, gas, and food. We are trying to produce our own feeder rodents to bring our snake/ferret feeding bill from $30/week to $10/week.

I think we are going to try and figure out more ways to save on gas and save money in general. And sometimes saving money is better for the enviroment anyway. For instance, we only run the snake racks, the computer, and the fish tank constantly. We are going to start turning the computers off when we are not using them and so that only leaves the snake racks and the fish tank (the fish tank might be sold anyway) that run constantly. Other than that, lights only go on when we need them and they are promptly turned off when leaving the room. This saves us a crap ton on our electric bill.

Re: Gas prices??? What are we to do??

i would love to have a hybrid...but at 50K for them there is no way for me to get one. i would save money by buying a 20K car and using what i save per month for other stuff.. we go green as much as we can but the cost of going green is larger than standard materials.

a statement above said to ride a bike to work, as some of us work 1-2 hours away ( driving) this would not work. i wish it could but it doesnt. im actually thinking about buying a motorcycle so i dont burn as much gas during the nice days...

if you cant afford to take care of it, dont get it

I would rather pay more money for gas than buy a motorcycle where you have one of the highest risks of dying.
It's not that motorcycle riders are bad drivers, most of them aren't. But it's the Other people that make riding them dangerous. People don't seem to notice people on bikes and that's why all the accidents on bikes happen, the people don't see you. It's always the *Other* people that you should worry about.

Re: Gas prices??? What are we to do??

I would love to have a bike, but I am worried about the risk of accidents. People around here are stupid drivers and never seem to care about other drives whether or not they are on a motorcycle. But it would be a good option for both my fiance and I. I have only a 15 min drive to work. My fiance only has a 15 min drive to work (we work across the street from each other). Bikes would be a good option here, but we are not sure we want to go through with having to get the license and actually buying a bike or 2. Not to mention thats another vehical to insure since I could not give up my car. I need it for all the things I carry and I'll need it for when I start a family.

Re: Gas prices??? What are we to do??

There are so many ways to cut back.

We really don't buy anything we don't need anymore.

I have even noticed that a few cricket suppliers shipping costs have gone up by at least $2.

I am going to buy a new colony of feeder roaches for the the dragon, and the Tokay.

    They snakes I have covered.

I am looking at selling some animals to kind of balance things out a bit.
