    Bob Pound told me

That since I'm using my Herpstat Pro inside my Animal Plastics T-10's to control RHP's.

That the probes are sso shiny and smooth that they don't effectively measure radiant heat.

And that I should scuff em up and paint em a flat black color to help absorb more of the radiant heat.

He said it would help the Herpstat get a better reading of the true ambient temps.

Has anyone ever heard of this? I don't doubt him. But its seems like a lot of other far fetched ideas that I've heard. I'd just like to get opinions before I start painting probes!! Haha

    Input is appreciated!

    Interesting!

Never heard of that one, but it makes sense in theory.

    Re: Bob Pound told me

Yeah!! I mean I could see it affecting the temps maybe like .1 or .2 degrees. But he was saying it was a few degrees change!!

I'm not having any problems with my setups. I was just calling to check his views on probe placements.

An interesting theory none the less.

    Re: Bob Pound told me

I'm not sure what difference there would be between "shiny" and "scuffed", but I would think a black probe if exposed to light would read a higher temperature than not black...

    Re: Bob Pound told me

I would doudle check readings with digital thermometers and temp gun to see how accurate the reading actually is. I use a herpstat pro to control an incubator and ambient heat in may snake room(as well as racks) and it is pretty darn accurate.

Oh I'm not having any problems with my setups. My Herpstat Pro is working like a charm.

I was just relaying what he said. I found in interesting. And was wondering what you all thought.

    Re: Bob Pound told me

    Here's what Dion said...

I have had one other person mention that. I bet it would also work (and maybe be easier) to take small piece of black heat shrink tubing (you can get at radio shack, lowes, ect) and slide it on and shrink it. Should do the same and you won't have to paint or scuff.

    Let me know your results.
    Dion

I just shrunk a piece on. Ill post results once everything gets acclimated.
