The dolphins weren't real friendly that day, although we did get some short video clips of them swimming around...really majestic animals.

I remember a number of years ago when my oldest boy was a tiger cub in the cub scouts, we got a special behind the scenes tour of the tiger house at the MN Zoo. It's a building where the off display animals stay and where everyone is fed. They had a yellow line painted on the floor that was about 3 feet from the bars, you had to stay on the other side of the line so that the Tigers couldn't reach through the bars and grab you, but 3 feet is pretty darn close to a full grown Tiger. They had one large adult male there on a breeding loan that was huge, I was surprised by how big they really are. He was feeling kind of peckish and wanted to be fed so he let loose with a roar while we were standing there three feet away from him. Every hair on my body stood on end and I could feel my bones vibrate. It made me feel rather insignificant in the over all scheme of life, but it was AWESOME.

The MN Zoo does a VERY nice job of naturalistic displays.

There's your komodo. They do a pretty good job with displays, only animal I saw pacing was the sun bear, he looks all tweaked out anyways.

Thats the one thing that dissapoints me about the MN Zoo. There really isn't a reptile house. The area where they keep the most reptiles is always pitch black lit with Red bulbs....there's only a big burm, green tree python, a few frogs, turtles, and some geckos. Not really much variety.
