Re: help, apparently i cant get Prevent-A-Mite?

yes the active ingredient is .50% permethrin and thats the only ingredient that matters it is also in the same amounts. so they are the same product. i have bought PAM for 22 a can and use it but i have also bought household lice spray for 5 a can and used it the same way you use PAM and they work the same. just remember never spray it on your snakes. spray the paper down let it dry then place snake in tub or tank. and repeat if needed.

( .50% permethrin) I used "reptile relief" ON the snake (follow directions to a T) and the drug store brand bedding spray on everything else (EVERYTHING ELSE!) Then, after rinsing everything, I replaced the substrate (eco-earth) with paper towel and left only 2 hides and a water dish, and my trusty accurite thermometer. This way IF there are any mites left I'll see them easier on the white paper towel. I believe there's a sticky about this somewhere here

Have it sent to a forum member who lives in a state close to NY and ask them to send it to you. I'd do it but someone must be closer than Oregon!!!

Well let me think. Maybe the government is watching this other company just to see if they break the law by sending PAM to NY. That is what they do. Waste their time with worthless crap instead of the real problems.

Why don't you tell him/her who would do it so you can be a co conspirator? Hey, I've seen crazier things in my life. It could happen in this great country.

It's the same company as the original post.

Try and find some Permectrin then mix it with water. A quart bottle will last your whole life if you don't have many mite problems.

Re: help, apparently i cant get Prevent-A-Mite?

A lot of people seem to think that Provent-A-Mite is MADE by Pro-Products. I COULD be wrong, but I highly doubt that Mr. Pound has the resources to do that. Testing - sure. Registration - sure. Production - I doubt it. There are many, many products out there that are re-packaged/re-labeled for other uses. I truly believe this is one of them.

I'm the dairy manager at a local grocery store. We carry 2 brands of milk, a name brand, and our store brand. I order both from the name brand vendor. The store brand is bottled by that vendor. They supply store brands for other stores as well. Occasionally, I'll get competitor's store brand milk mixed in with mine. NOWHERE on the package of the store brand is the name brand mentioned. Also, I carry a name brand tea that is brewed and bottled by the same dairy. It is contracted to that dairy by the name brand company. One of THEIR competitors also brews/bottles the same name brand tea in other markets. Just thought I'd add this!

With all of that said, I generally use Provent-A-Mite with my snakes. But I use Repel Permanone on my own bed, clothing, surfaces around the animal cages, etc. It has the exact same active ingredients as Provent-A-Mite, and I suspect that it may even come out of the same mixing vat. I won't say that I've used it for animals, because that IS using it for a purpose other than the stated purpose on the can. It can be bought at WalMart.

Re: help, apparently i cant get Prevent-A-Mite?

I never suggested to use it ON the animal, I said that I personally used "reptile relief" ON the animal, and equate stuff on everything else ( cage, bedding, hides, etc.) The person that told me about this money saving trick is a pet shop owner and reptile breeder. I came home and searched for it and found several threads about it on kingsnake. Like I said, I used it (now it'd be) yesterday. and have had no ill effects yet. I'll keep you posted, though! Honestly, I think the biggest thing is that he's stressed, and most certainly didn't enjoy us messing with his head, but we had to....there were mites.

I don't really care what this gov't thinks about this issue or what they might or might not involve themselves with. My father was retired CIA and I have been arrested several times for peaceful civil disobedience; I'm sure I have a thick dossier!! As for fear? It's not my thing.........................
