Re: Post your tatoos
Here are a couple of mine I got from Darrin White.

Edie, I love the death's head moth. I airbrushed one for my brother. I'll have to get a pic of it.

I want to get one, but that worries me
Here is some unsolicited advice
My husband is a tattoo artist. There are different calibers of tattoo artists out there.
Nothing on earth regarding tattoos upets me more, than when people go to a shop because it is "cheap." For something that is going to be on your person, from now until after you die.. is this the right thing to do? To go to a shop because they're the cheapest in town? No way. Please be demanding, and look at the artist's portfolio of work that he/she has personally done recently. Get familiar with what a REAL tattoo looks like. Not these shaky ones that are put out by mediocre shops everywhere.. but a real tattoo. And don't be afraid to spend $$. Penny pinching and lowballing an artist is pretty-much an insult to him/her.. unless you are really getting a gross overestimate.
All of the tats that I see on these posts, are good. In bad tattoos, I am talking about-
-shaky lines. INconsistent lines are not just something that have to be there. They are the result of a tattoo artist that is not confident, maybe on drugs, or just shaky. Would you want a shaky surgeon operating on your liver? No.. this is actually one of the reasons that I am not tattooing with my man. I shake. I can work on calming that response, but until then.. no, I will not put artwork onto a person.
-dull points on areas that are supposed to be sharp (like bird's beaks, wingtips, etc.) Again, same reasons as shaky lines.
-inconsistent, odd-looking shading. Another result of uneducated tattooists.
-ink quality. Starbright Inks are the best on the market, from what I have seen. Cheap and inferior inks are just junk.. please research this and see what inks impress you, and find someone who uses them! Unless you want a faded tattoo that will need reworking many times.
-drilling. This is hard to really identify in tattoo pics.. but it is bad. When an artist digs too deep into the skin, the ink will possibly hit the fat cells and can actually bleed into them and discolor skin around the tattoo. Not to mention, deep tattoos will sometimes puff out and look unsightly.
Some AWEsome tattoo artists that you should Google are Paul Booth (his subject matter might offend some.. but WOW his work is awesome.) And yes, Kat Von D frmo LA Ink. Her portraits are awesome.
-Jen. Back in the hobby after a hiatus!

Those are really, really awesome! Great shading and realism.

Re: Post your tatoos
I agree w/ Ginevive but unless you have 500.00 just to drop on the sit in Kat Von D's chair don't consider it...
I do think she'll do one of mine someday hopefully.

Amazing advice! I am lucky that I am still happy with my tats, but I made the HUGE mistake of letting an aspiring friend do them, for cheap. I like them, but they are raised and could be much better. My next tat is actually to surround and incorporate one I have on my calf, and this time I have chosen an artist with an amazing reputation, incredible work, and outstanding artistic abilities that will assist in designing the add on.
