Anyways, there was no darn egg laying going on! I'm pretty sure of that!

Then I noticed he had the same glasses as my dad, and he told me that they shop at the same place. Then I asked why he had the same ring as my dad (it was a class ring), and he told me they went to the same school. She I told all of my friends that my dad went to school with santa.

Re: I wish people would think first!

At the pet store I worked out we refused to sell rabbits for the week before easter and about 2 days after. We had one gem of a spoiled teenage girl come in with her friends wanting to buy a rabbit the day before Easter one year. I told her we didn't sell rabbits around easter. She was all, "Why not?" and I told her that a lot of people buy rabbits just for easter and then dump them off afterwards, and that if she really wanted a rabbit she could come back after easter and get one. To which she said, "What would be the point? I just want it for Easter!" Whereupon all her friends laughed and they left. I wanted to punch her in the face. I'm getting mad just thinking about it. URRRGH.

Re: I wish people would think first!

I've heard it, and seen it, plenty of times. People only want those cute little bunnies, duckies and chickies for a few days, then they dump them with rescues and even just dump them outside. It's the most horrid thing... I wish they would find some NON LIVING icons for their holidays!! At Christmas it's the poor pines... just cut down by the thousands and then dumped out on the curb afterward... so sad.

And BTW, yes you spelled Ostara correctly. It's my second favorite natural holiday... first being Samhain(Halloween to non-pagans).
I, too, find it frustrating that they totally deny having taken all their holidays from pagan celebrations... oh well, they deny almost everything you try to tell them anyway.

Blessed Be! And hoping you all had a Merry Ostara!

My mother used to tell me rabbits lay eggs when I was little. I was so excited, I wanted to see... so she took me to the rabbit hutch and showed me the droppings beneath.. Eww

Re: I wish people would think first!

It IS stupid People don't think of the care and cleanup that these little bunnies need. They just want a cute photo-op for their kids. Isn't that why someone dresses up as the Easter Bunny and sits at the mall for photos? Sad. It makes me grit my teeth to think of people being so callus. Granted, I do not really like rabbits much. Living on a farm and having to shuffle through piles on piles of their poop pellets in the hay barn.. you get to dislike them fast in my poop-compressed shoes.
Yes, Easter had Pagan roots. There are enough listings on Google that go into that, without me re-inventing the wheel. I could go into the whole thing whereby the Pagan's male aspect of the Horned God was turned from his original purpose as a virile male life force, to a horned evil demon, but I am sure that no one wants religious debate in the Bunny Thread!

Hey, merry Ostara to you, too! I happen to be one of "them", I just consider myself a well-informed Christian who likes to do her homework I have enough pagan friends to know some of the rudiments of different things, I loved Neil Gaiman's American Gods and I dig mythology

But as per the point of the thread, I think we've all expressed our disgust with irresponsible parents buying cute things without any intention of caring for them after the holiday. A smarter thing to do would be to have some chicken and lapin for a meal with some hard-boiled eggs My mom and her family traditionally have lamb--it's symbolic and tasty

Re: I wish people would think first!

Ah! An enlightened one! Major Kudos to you, Azure, there aren't enough well-informed Christians out there...

I, myself, make it a strong point to study at least the essentials of all religions for better understanding.

Back to the bunnies: I think someone should invent a business called 'Rent-A-Bunny' that rents/lends out bunnies, ducks, and other such holiday critters to those insensitive idiots who only want one for a day or two. That way, the manager would make big bucks and the animals would be spared!

If I had the room right now... I would love to have another dwarf rabbit. The three rabbits I once had were all rescues from the Spring tragedies...
