Re: Where to get cheap racks?

Naw I wrote it correctly... my tubs are 116qt. Why do I use them? Its been my observation that given more space balls will use it at night time when theyre awake. Also I provide all my snakes with 2 hides so in order to get 2 zilla XLarge hides in there with a water bowl and the fake tree thing you need atleast 96qt tub. I found 116qt lock tops and they were 5$ off per tub(originally 17$) so I got enough for all my snakes. Right now I have 6 116qt tubs on my "rack". They really arnt that big... the dimensions are below.

    33 1/8"L x 20 1/4"W x 14 3/4"H (Outside Dimensions)
    27"L x 16 1/2"W x 12"H (Inside Dimensions)

That's what I was wondering. Unless the plastic is like 3" thick, that doesn't make sense. I don't have any tubs over 28qt. Like I said before, I even have an 1,100g '05 female breeding in a 12 qt.

To the original poster, I think Reptile Basics has some of the most affordable racks I've seen, but you can build your own for a lot cheaper. You won't be able to find any for the same price as what you would pay to build it. If you could, themanufacturer wouldn't be making anything, but than you'd still have to pay for shipping. For $300, you'd be best off buying a Herpstat and Flexwatt and building your own rack out of melamine.
What are these mojavas I keep hearing so much about?

Re: Where to get cheap racks?

Naw its not really huge... if you think it is then great thats the whole point ...im trying to give my animals space... not everyone wants to keep their snakes in a 12qt tub. As far as the measurements the top is wider than the bottom... all rubbermaid tubs kinda go in at an angle from top to bottom and theyre not straight down. Im assuming thats where the measurment differences comes into play. Either way my sinakes have plenty of room and they use the whole tub so I will always house mine in large tubs. I believe that you should offer all pets the most room possible as long as youre still meeting their needs. Thas just how I do.

I'd say build your own. I built a 41qt rack that holds 10 tubs complete with tubs and heat for ~$275.

Here are my plans for a different 41 qt tub rack: http://www.blueappleherps.com/page13/page14/page14.html

On this one you could swap out the Sintra for plywood to save money.

Re: Where to get cheap racks?

I looked at my receipts and i spent $37 on wood and $18 on tubs. the flexwatt was another $20 or so. that brings the total to $75. what do you think?

I can guarantee that thin plywood is going to bow within 6-12 months and you'll have to build new. The first rack I built I made the mistake of using cheap, thin plywood and it become garbage rather quickly. I highly recommend the use of cabinet grade plywood at least 3/4" thick...Yes it's more expensive, but you won't be having to replace the rack within a year. The wooden racks that I still have have been in use for 2-3 years now and they're extremely sturdy (could stand on them).

I just ordered a 10 shelf 15/32qt rack from Animal Plastics for $360. They sell the smaller version (6 shelf) for $225, which would suit the OP's budget.
