Re: This anygood?
From what I have read on the site the incubator above will work with some modifications. Mostly you have to swap out the mechanical type thermostat with a reliable digital one such as a Ranco or Helix. I would go with the ranco for incubating since the 1 degree of flux the ranco can be set for is not going to make much of a difference. We initially looked into one of those and it would be fine for the person hatching one or two clutches a year. We decided our goals were a little higher than that and found a nice incubator that can hold 9 clutches. Again it will require some modifications mainly removing both mechanical style thermostats and installing three rancos with one backing the other up on the low side and another performing a complete shut down incase of overtemp. All and all it will be about $700.00 for our incubator when done and set up. This is probably overkill for most hobby type breeders, but if you are looking at clutches of albinos, axanthics, pieds, and some double morphs such as snows if you save one egg by having all the back ups the incubator has paid for itself.

Thanks; we're all good! I also have extra t'stats and so was going to go to the dump- er- recycling center to see what they have in the way of small fridges, wine coolers, etc. There are lots of threads that members have made showing how they have converted these and they can hold a lot of clutches! I'm hoping to breed 3 females next season and them maybe the following season I'll have 9 ready to go! I'm wondering if keeping temps stable is easier with a couple of smaller units or if a big fridge works just as well.... Good luck on your quest and let me know how it all works for you-- maybe post pictures if you make something!!
