I'm out of aspan,can my rats go on the rest of my ceder for about a week? and not have any problems

Dried pine is fine, aspen is fine but people have had major problems with ceder..

No, I dont even think pine is ok. Studies have shown that small animals that live on pine have elevated liver enzymes and often die from liver disease.

My Jury is still out on kiln dried pine....

NO! Cedar kills. The oils contained in the shavings cause ALOT of problems such as kidney/liver failure, respiratory failure, skin irritation. Not to mention, if those oils are on the rodent, and you feed that rodent off to a snake, your snake is eating those oils.. They are very caustic and should only be used inside dog beds where they won't come into contact with skin.

Cedar is toxic to almost everything. Its a shame that almost ALL pet stores carry cedar bedding.

Nothing isn't a viable option. Your rats need to be on appropriate bedding for their comfort, which is your responsibility and for hygienic reasons. Depending on the number of rats you keep you can pick up a bag of bedding at Walmart that will easily do quite a good number of enclosures and cost you no more than about $5.00.

If you are really stuck then grab an old phone book. Rip up the pages in thin strips and toss lots of that in there. It's not a great bedding and will need to be changed out a lot but it can do until you are able to get to a store for proper bedding for them.

Even ripped-up newspaper would be better than nothing. Using nothing.. you're going to have a stinking mess in your cage. I have brought rats on the short trip from the pet store to my house (literally about a 5-min. drive if that.) in containers with no bedding. In that short time, they made a gross mess inside the container. For even this short trip, I now put in some shavings.

Yep been there Jen and it's gross! Even when I pull feeders to give to the boa's and the milksnake who are in a different room in our house, they go into a container on bedding for that short trip down the hall. The waste they can put out in a few seconds is nasty really and I figure who needs to have to scrub more than I already scrub on a daily basis LOL.
