Where can I probe my tank?
I got a BAH-1000 yesterday and it seems I have to have it set lower than what I want it at. I have to have it set at 88 at the temps stay at 89-93.7.
I think i've already mentioned this here, but this is my question. If I put the probe between the UTH and the glass will I get a better reading you think? My thermometer (acurite) probe is stuck to the glass, but the t-stat probe is much bigger and harder to tape down.
Can I even do that? (put the probe between the UTH and the glass?). I'm gonna order a Helix when my settlement comes in, in a month. So far though, the t-stat i'm using works, but not the way i'm wanting it to.

Re: Where can I probe my tank?
Hi,
Well I am not really the person to ask but since no one else has seen it yet I'll give it my uninformed opinion.
It should be doable as long as there is sufficient clearance to stop the probe being pressed against the glass creating a cracking risk.

Kinda thing - does that make sense? I fixed mine down with aluminium tape to stop it lifting with the heat.
You will probably find you will have to adjust the t/stat a fair bit till you figure out the internal temps of the hides.
I know I have my t/stat probe taped to my flexwatt but it is on an overhang at the back of my tubs not directly underneath.
The basic thing is once you have adjusted the t/stat to keep the temps inside ok then if it changes you really need to try and find out what changed and why.
How have you insulated the tank? How are the roomm temps?
The problem is you really don't want to be fiddling with these kind of things with a tank containing an animal if you can avoid it.
**edit**
Just noticed another point - it is quite normal for the t/stat to have to be set at a different temp if the probe is in a different location to the thermometer probe. As long as the temps are stable inside the tank and at the right range then the setting on the t/stat is really irrelevant.

Re: Where can I probe my tank?
Thanks bro,
Yeah, the probe for the t-stat is taped down right next to the thermometer probe, which actually has a nice sticky part on it, like the stuff you hang posters up with, but stronger.
I didn't fully understand what you meant with the t-stat prob under the tank, but over the UTH. If it's not evenly distributing the heat, it can crack the tank right?
If I tape it to the bottom of the UTH, I'm not sure how that will read, but I guess it doesn't matter, as long as the temps are in the same range, I could set the t-stat to 60 if I have to.
Looked at the helix and it's just too much for me right now.

Have you looked at the Herpstat? The original Herpstat is $109.00; so less than the Helix. Here's the link: http://www.spyderrobotics.com/products/herpstat.html

I've read the herpstat is better if you have more than one heater. Is it nearly as good as the Helix? Everywhere I go it's, "Helix is da bomb" "Helix could even take on Chuck Norris" etc..
edit: I just read about the Herpstat. Sounds nice!! Thanks a lot, I think I'd heard of it before, but probably didn't notice. I'm gonna get that one for sure instead. Saves me about $50
edit edit: I may even get 2!!!! I just read that it keep your stuff cool!! Sounds great, gonna buy one for my computer. You can even monitor the status of the unit online, so I can monitor my little buddy from work.
