I'm going to be devils advocate for a second:

If a seasoned breeder comes here, notices all of the beginner questions, but also notices all of the answers coming from the more seasoned members of the site, is it really necessary to add to the thread if the question is quickly answered?

I notice that it seems to happen pretty quickly where the question is posted, and (if the Q is easy enough) quickly answered.

    What then?

But a member that is active would find places where they can contribute so there should be no reason why they can't contribute in some way even if its not answering questions

New, tighter restrictions were already put into place last year regarding the classifieds, I'm not sure that further restrictions are warranted, IMHO.
How is asking other peoples feelings on a matter elitist? Please.... I didn't even propose a limit others did.

Agreed, but in slightly less visible ways, so therefore less "participatory"?

And, to what degree does one have to participate before they become accepted as not just trying to sell their wares?

I know that when I was starting out - I particularly liked it when Adam was participating and sharing his point of view and his experiences at a breeder level.

I'm sure that our newer members would be just as thrilled to also have a breeder show interest in their question and add their $.02 as well. And there's more than one way to do things, so just because a seasoned member has answered, doesn't mean that there's not something someone else can add.

I shed my Devils advocate cape.. (MWAHAHAHA) and agree with you very much.

However, like there are people who are members and like to lurk, there are breeders that are the same.

Just because someone posts an add doesn't mean they are gonna sell anything. Reputation counts for alot. There is no rule for posting an add your first day BUT if you take advantage of the situation you will be penalized. For example people have been thrown off this site for abusing the picture forum to promote animals for sale. You are only allowed so many ads. I think the more established you are on this site the more respect your ad will get by fellow members and that comes from contribution. I think it also says alot about the person and their genuine concern for the animals and people that buy them.

And there are breeders who lurk, but have no problem showing off the animals that are hatching (ad nauseum, too), or commenting only on threads to customers who have purchased their animals to comment how good the animal they sold them looks (See my sign - I produced that - buy from me!).

They're really quite transparent when you pay attention.

If they ALSO participated by commenting on other people's animals, or genuinely helping newer herpers, it wouldn't be so irritating and obvious what their real motivation is (to sell animals).

See what you did! Got me on my

Actually, they haven't been banned for that reason. It just happens that person did abuse the picture forum - but that was not the reason that they were banned.

Plus, the restrictions on the ads assure that they aren't on the front page very long.
Now where else would they sell thier blind snakes at .

I can dream can't I?
I do not have any snakes that are breeding now but i still attempt to help others out

In my opinion it still shows they care no matter how many times the question has been answered.
