add another hide to other side and remove stick thing. lamp+open top= low humidity. check the sticky in this section for how to insulate your screen top to help keep humidity in. some might also suggest some how blocking the sides and back to help maintain temps and make the snake feel less exposed.

there is a chance he could fall from it. i would remove it just to be safe. a snake trying to get out of the tiny space its in will climb on stuff to get closer to the top. take it out and put another hide and i bet you he still climbs around on the hides to test the top for a way out! my first bp did all sorts of stuff trying to get to the screen top. i even found him on my digital thermometer/hydrometer. with no way down othere than falling (no clue how he got up there! it was outta reach even if he was on tippy tail). but if i didnt catch him and pull him down there would be no way for him to get down, being a mostly terrestrial snake they really dont need vertical climbing space. just some food for thought.

First, I'd get another hide, especially if the snake is new and you're not sure how shy it is. Second, ditch the lamp and get 2 small UTH's, one for each side both hooked up to a thermostat. Put aluminum foil over the entire top of screen mesh with the shiny side down and secure it with tape. Poke a few holes in it for air, and you will be set. You will have stable humidity that will stay where you want it, good temps on the substrate, and the heat will also reflect off the foil to give some good ambient temps. This is what I ended up doing for my first tank after a lot of expensive and annoying experiments. Good luck!

Your snakes not gonna get hurt falling from that tree or from the top of the tank!!! Whats the height like 14inchs? I have that same exact tree along with 2 other kinds and all my snakes use them. Do they fall??? Yeah but its nothing thats gonna hurt them. OP I would can the half log and pick up 2 small black zilla hides and youll be good. KEEP THE TREE IN!!
