    Corns vs. Balls?

For those who own or have owned both, which do you like better? Or what are some differences, personality-wise? How are they similar? I'm very likely getting a corn soon and just wondering what I'm in for!

Well i have owned both and the care is just about the only big differance. The corns come in TONS of differant colors and the genetic crosses is untouched bigtime in my opinion .Now if you get a baby corn they are QUICK little devils ,so hold on to them when moving out of the enclosure.Let us know what you end up picking up

Yeah, I'm having a horrible time trying to decide what kind to get! WAY too many choices for my fickle mind! I've always liked the looks of corns but yesterday I held one for the first time and fell in love! haha! They are squirmy little things though!

    Re: Corns vs. Balls?

Well, I've owned both for a while now, and I love all my snakes. But, I will say that care for the corns is a LOT easier! They have less rigid temperature requirements, are not as picky about environment, and eat like clockwork as compared to balls. They are also quite a bit more active. And yes, baby corns are lightning bolts, so be careful if you get a little one. The adults, if raised right to be calm, are wonderful to handle and tolerate long handling periods...at least, mine do.

Corns: more active and alert, like to be on the move and will get into things if you let them. Can be nippy as babies and are very fast at that stage. Stay relatively small for a snake and thus are a bit more manageable. MANY colors to chose from to fit your personal likings. Cheap (for snakes).

Ball Pythons: Hide most of the time, but really docile. Manageable length but can get pretty hefty. More and more colors coming out every year, but they are pricey! Can be picky about feeding and environment. Sweet and gentle snakes.

There's my comparison. I adore my two balls, but they are a lot of cost and work for a poor college student. In my situation, the corns are easier to keep happy.

    Re: Corns vs. Balls?

I own both and I must say, I like both equally. They both have their pros and cons I guess. Well not many cons.

Cornsnakes I believe are a little more forgiving with humidity and temps but I always keep mine at the right temp so I've never had an issue. Corns can be more active. I know my little baby corn, Moo-Pig likes to cruise around his cage at night. Zim, my first corn started my snake obsession. She's very sweet and calm and has a very good feeding response. I think she's only refused one meal since I got her back in December of '06.

I've only had ball pythons since August but from I can tell they are pretty laid back but some can be a little testy like my pastel boy. He tracks your movements while you have his tub open. Then you have my other male and he's quite "tame". They are not as active but occasionally I see Sadis moving around her tub, but mostly around Sunday or Monday because Tuesday is feeding day and she's getting hungry. I find that ball pythons are easier to handle because they are not moving around as much. Corns like to cruise around and explore when you hold them, balls do not. (for the most part). I remember one ball python we had when I was little. My stepfather would put him around his arm and just walk around the house. The snake didn't seem to mind and would actually sit in your lap while you watched t.v. He never bit and had a great feeding response.

    So both are great snakes.
    Under Construction.....
