Re: Suggestion for the snake ban.

I have thought about a similar issue which is trying to get people I know to help submit comments. I thought about sending a blanket e-mail out at work and then stopped myself because I realized I had absolutely no idea how many snake-haters I might inadvertantly alert. I'm only going to talk to people I know will help the situation.

The news will be a thousand times worse. ALOT of people HATE snakes and would be just fine with a ban. The rest of them will never get a snake and find them interesting in "trip to zoo" kind of way and couldn't care less if pet owners get screwed.

I've taken my BP up to work a couple of times to show to my co-workers and I've talked snakes to alot of people there. Here's what I found:
    1) When I brought him up, most of them were curious to see him and perhaps touch and/or hold him. But, it was clearly a novelty.
    2) Out of perhaps 20 people that actually knew I had a snake at the office, I would say about 3 or 4 were clearly haters (That's 20%!). They were polite and quiet about it but its easy to tell when they just won't come near you like you've got the worst B.O. in the world. The HR lady just about fainted. We're talking a 2ft snake here.
    3) As far as I know, there is only one other keeper in my building of 100 people.

So, my experience tells me that the haters outnumber the keepers by at least 10 to 1. Public appeal will not work - this matter needs focused political pressure.

Today's media is anti people owning exotic animals... and anti business, so imagine combining the two. We'd be evil profiteers dealing in a little known exotic pet trade with no regard for our animals and unregulated by the federal government. They'd find that one jackass who let his 20ft burm get out and kill his 10yr old daughter... "and others like him could be living right next door to you".

Forget the media. We don't want their "unbiased" news.
