Water Bowls in Tubs ???

Ok this is a question for you guys out there using racks with tubs. I have heard many guys talk about glueing the water bowls to the inside of the tub or atleast something to hold the water bowl so it does not get moved around by the snake or turned over and make a mess. Could ya'll give me instructions on what you used and how you did this. Pictures would also be great if you have them. Thanks

I use 4" PVC couplers with 16oz deli cup inserts for water. It's handy because you can just replace the deli cup instead of the whole thing. Some people will hot glue these to the insides of the tubs. I don't do this because it would limit the type of substrate you can use (I prefer newspaper) And it's really not necessary. The snakes will move the water bowls around, but I can't actually remember ever having one knocked over.

I wouldn't go as far as gluing the water bowl down...how would you fill it?

I had a couple girls that constantly tipped over their water bowl. You could get a bigger water bowl (which is what I did and it worked) or you could get one of those dog bowls with the wide bottom so that dogs (and snakes) won't tip it over.

That is what I was looking for I remember people saying the used the disposable cups and had something that held them. I just wanted to know what they used to hold them in place. I have used larger bowls and some of my really big girls still manage to tipp them over and I even have a girl that has perfected tipping over the type with the wider bottom that Nathan mentioned.

I hot glue on 16oz. deli cup to the bottom of the tub, then insert another one into it. Cups are easily replaceable whenever the need arises. Alot of times I just clean it and replace it. You have to use a copious amount of glue for bigger snakes so they don't knock it loose. It works well for me. I use aspen bedding as newspaper won't really work with the water bowls like that. I got that tipe from Greg Graziani and I like it so far.

I use the smaller deli cups for babies. I think 8oz. is the size. I order the two sizes that ARS caging has available.

Here are a couple of my girls so that you can see the bowls in the tubs. They are both over 1000g and the glue is holding fine.

Great thread and everyone is giving out some really good info!

I use 4" PVC couplers and deli cups for my snakes as well ... I've never had an adult girl tip one and I've got some really really big girls.

I don't glue down my couplers or fix them in place for a couple of reasons.

1. I've tried it in the past and found that it took a lot of extra time to clean the tub if feces or urates got stuck in the seam where the coupler was glued down. I try and reduces edges, corners, and seams inside my tubs for ease of cleaning. Being able to remove a dirty coupler and clean it in the sink with hot water and soap is a added benefit for the way I do things.

2. I like the idea that the snakes can move them around ... kinda gives them something to do ... or at least adds a stimuli to the enclosure ... I'll often find girls re-arrange their tubs each week and the water bowl/hides will be in the same place as the week before. Maybe they feel more comfortable having their environment a certain way?

This certainly isn't a dig at anyone that does things differently ... it's just what works for me.

Just 4-8 inch heavy ceramic/terracotta bowls. never had a problem.

i use a bird bowl with the wires on the back.
i drill holes in the tub and put the bird bowl in.

You are right about the cleaning around the crease where they are glued down. I have been considering going to the couplers but haven't yet. I guess it's just a procrastination thing.
