Quick breeding reminder....

Oh Adam I like this theory....now the question is, do you introduce the male a day before the storm? An hour before? During the storm? I need to start to watch the weather

Ideally, I like to have them paired up right as the storm is rolling in or a 1/2 day before. But for example, this past Thursday it snow'd big time here and even though MeMe warned me in 8 Ball Chat Wednesday night, I wasn't prepared ... so I moved some males around when I got to work (after the snow had started) and within an hour they were all locked up ... so it works either way.

All ball python breeders should be 1/8th weather person.

Snow is actually even better than rain. Any low pressure storm system will get them going ... not just for breeding, but many times for feeding as well.

From talking to some people with backgrounds in biology and animal behavior about this, I have a theory that it has to do with the fact that predators are less likely to "hunt" during storm systems because their sense of sight and smell are limited ... and since breeding and eating are times when ball pythons are most vulnerable, they feel more secure breeding and eating during storms when the predators aren't looking for them. But like I said, it's just a theory.

Adam, the theory is very interesting and seems grounded in logic, makes a ton of sense to me.... I also try and put my males in just before a storm, but have to put them in the middle and even tail ends of storms and had great results.

Darn it! My poor boys are stuck living in a semi-desert. At least the fog here ironically does the same trick. I always keep an eye out for thick fog at night, add a little candlelight, a little barry manilow...... Works like a charm. Still, feel free to send some rain my way......

Hey Mark, what exactly am I looking for when looking at the Barometer? When do I want to introduce my males? When the barometer is reading.....?

Look for a low pressure system to move through, which also signifies a storm front, as storms come with low pressure. I wouldnt really rely on barometer though, just because I dont know what a normal reading is LOL. Just listen to the weather man, and watch for that triangle crescent to move across your state. (I think triangle is low, it may be a half circle to signify low pressure)

30.00 or below!! And there doesnt have to be a storm at your house for it to happen.
