    Good New's and Bad New's

Well, I took my large female and pastel male to check there weight, up to this place where I know some BP breeder's. I asked him if my female had RI, I dont remember if you guy's saw my post wheezy sound. Anyways he checked her mouth everything looks a ok, but she only tips in at 640grams and my male is 140 grams... She is a big snake i was hoping she would be 1200 at the least but she's only half that !!!!! the bad new's is my female might be a he, and I already got a male so what do I do to check again my self?

Well if you check yourself, if your not sure on what your doing you can hurt them. If you took it to a local breeder they said it was a male. Good chances are its a male. Do what you want with it. Keep it or sell it to the local pet shop or whatever. Thats up to you. If you have had it for awhile, why get rid of it? I would keep them both I would work on getting everything I need to care for them. Learn all you need to know about caring for them and breeding. Learn all you can about what is need, and how to incubate the eggs. While thats going on pick up a female or two. Grow them up when you and the snakes are ready. Then think about breeding them. From a few of your post it sounds like you have a bit more to learn, before you should think about breeding. Thats what this forum is about. Ive said this to you before this is a great place to learn everything you need to know. From care for you ball pythons to breeding and then some. Dont rush it get everything right and it will happen someday. Rush it or dont know what your doing. You will either not get any eggs or could harm your animals, or both.

well if u look at the spers on the tale if they point a little inword its a boy if there strate or point outword its a girl. if your still not sure, u know about the retile barn i tald u about that is right down the road from u. just go there and they will check it for free. the use probs to stick in the snake and if the prob goes in close to a inch or more its a male if it does go in that far like 1/4 of a inch its a female

Re: Good New's and Bad New's

The only sure fire way to know the sex is to probe. Even then, it's possible to make a mistake. Take it to a large breeder or vet and see if they will probe for you. They go by how many scales deep, males go in farther because of the hemipenes.

Relying on the spurs does not work. Nor does looking at the tail length, or the size of the head. That can be something for very experienced keepers to see, but even then, it's not even probable to tell that way.

Get them sexed with a probe by an experienced keeper or vet.

Also, you've had her for 2 years already, it's most likely she's a he just based on weighing so little after this long. I have an 07 female that weighs that much. And 06's over 1000.

Hi. This is not true. The only way you can sex a ball python is through popping or probing. If you don't know what you're doing...please seek help.

Re: Good New's and Bad New's

The spurs can indicate sex, but is not an accurate means to determine sex. Especially for someone with little to no experience with sexing snakes.
In this case, the only way to sex properly is by probing and popping.

For some good reading, please refer to this article

Re: Good New's and Bad New's

from the herpetocultural library ball python book "Both sexes of ball pythons have large cloacal spurs. in most abult specimens, the spurs of intact males are larger and have a more inward hook then the spurs of females. however, the spursof older adult male ball pythons are often worn, there tips blunt and rounded, and sometimes they appear smallerthen the spurs of a female of similar size." but they r right about 2 things use a lubricated porb and get some that know what there r doing.

Yes exactly, it can INDICATE sex, but is not a reliable and accurate means to determine sex.

    Even more so when
the spursof older adult male ball pythons are often worn, there tips blunt and rounded, and sometimes they appear smallerthen the spurs of a female of similar size.
