Why do Kenyan Sand Boas have bad reps?

Morty, our little KSB, is showing his cool personality more and more. He seems to have gotten so comfortable with handling and has really warmed up to us. It is so fun to see the difference between a KSB and a BP - he is not at all head-shy. You can approach his head from the front somewhat quickly with your finger to stroke him, and he doesn't flinch one bit.

We really enjoy his tongue flicking b/c it's so tiny and cute! He's still only about 10 - 11 inches long. We haven't weighed him recently, but when we got him, he was only 10 grams - since then he has only had 3 live pinkie mice. I wish we could give him meals more regularly, but he won't take F/T yet and lives are hard to come by out here.

Anyway, back to the point of the post. I have been asked if he is nippy on this forum, and have read that they can be. He is NOT AT ALL nippy. Maybe b/c we are raising him from a baby (he was about a month old when we got him)? But he is SO chill and sweet and handleable. He ROCKS! I can't wait to see how he develops as he grows.

    ROCK ON, KSB's!!!

Maybe because they hide constantly and rarely come out during the day.

I didn't know they did have bad reps... I happen to have a nippy one but even he is being trained out of his habits instilled by a previous owner who never handled him.

I think the "trashing" that a lot of them do seems to turn people off, when really it's just that they're burrowers without bodies meant for solid ground or human hands.

But I hear most people talk about them favorably.

Glad most people talk about them favorably. Maybe it was one or two biased people that gave me that impression. Ours is a total sweetheart. Each time I hold Morty (our KSB), he amazes me more, like our BP does. Last night, Morty was really enjoying having his head stroked. He was even lifting his head into the stroke on occasion. He is so cute!

I've heard people say they think they're boring.. but not mean. I don't see how such a cute snake could be 'boring'. Oh well.

Yeah, ours is showing so much personality now. He can range from very calm and still to moving around actively when handled. Also, he comes out at night. I have seen him out for a drink, and once recently, caught him going up the corner of his tank to reach for the screen. It was on his cooler side, so I think he was asking to come out to explore.
