are bloods good snakes to have ?

well yea the topic kind is dumb but i wanna learn some new things .but anyway i guess i would consider my self a intermidiate experienced keeper. soo i had my eye on this one blood pythons for several months now and i wanted to know would they be the snake for me ? from what i hear from alot of people they dont warn you when they will bite they just bite. i dont mind a juvinile biteing me but how much damage would a adult cause . a trip to the hospital for stiches ?
and for humidity they need 50-60% right ?

well i still have the wamena type chondro,black tree monitor and frilled lizard in mind if you have any opinions or help full advise,info on these please feel free to say something

lol, for being 14 you sure are aquiring a large collection.
I'm not putting you down in any way, but do your research before jumping into this one. Chances are low, but you could end up with a nasty snake. Will you be able to still safely care for it?

If your looking for an animal to handle regularly, perhaps a blood isn't for you. They are slugs. Beautiful and my favorite, but not much in the way of activity lol. Also, how long have you had snakes for? Would you be able to identify the subtle problems? Can you meet all the financial responsibilities?

Perhaps not a huge blood right now, but a sumatran short tail. If you want to get into bloods, go for them. Smaller, and a calmer disposition, plus, they're black. cant go wrong with a little darkness.

If yes, then go for it. Make sure to research potential sellers, and as always, practise good quarantine.

well im trying to have some hands on experience before i go to collage im going to study herpotoligy and what i mean by hands on means not im going to dump em im going to have them untill they die of old age hopefully .
and i wont lie to you i have been experienced with snakes for around a year now and i have a saveings acount just for my snakes like for the vet new cages and stuff like that i got 500$ right now . and i read on short tails and bloods i just dont understand the differnces is it because of the behaviors and where their from ? thanks for the respond

I also recommend listening to reptileradio with BigCountry out there from RedPython.net (sp?) There is a ton of info out there, but you gotta do some footwork to get at it.

I think bloods are very rewarding captives, but I also am still learning here myself. I do read up on any forum I can find. So that's really what i recommend the most.

well would a short tail be a boreno and a sumatran and a black blood. and they had a black blood at the reptile shop i got to and its a year old and its really small i dident think the yearlings would be that small i asked the guy if i could see it but he only grabbed it by its tail cuz that one was snappy ive been looking around a little and i like red blood pythons i dont really want to spend anything over 500$ i have also seen some good bloods at ben sigels reptiles so i will look up more info and look around for a while then by june july i will make my decision on what i want but now i narrowed it down to the chondro and the blood python i allready have a chondro so i might get the blood and what kind of bloods do you have can you post some pics?

You want to know the different species? Or the localities?
There are 3 species, Python Brongersmai, Python Breitensteini (sp) and Python Curtus.
Brongersmai is the Blood pythons. Malaysian, Sumatran, Bangka etc.
Breitensteini are the Borneo short-tails, they only inhabit the island of Borneo
And Curtus, The Sumatran short-tails. (aka, black blood). Curtus comes with 2 head colors, Orange and Black (light or dark), I know there is discussion on perhaps the two color's being different enough to not cross breed the 2. The black heads are the ones that get really black as they age. They are also the smallest of the 3 species and said to be the calmest.

Short tails are SUPPOSED to be smaller.. but I saw one of Kara's that was as big as my brongersmai.

If you really want one, pick the one that you like the most. They're all decent sized snakes, but not giants by any means.

Like any snake, there are snippy ones and docile ones. Most become docile with age and handling. Mine like to hiss but they're pretty docile otherwise.. well except for my new one. lol

Your husbandry has to be on the money not to mention it doesn't take much to stress them out so be ready for a challenging experience.
