    Re: Speaking "Southern"

I tried to make okra once. It was some sort of pre-breaded, frozen okra and well...it was mushy and gross. I'm pretty sure how it's made in the south must be better than that. Of course, this is from a person that uses whomp um biscuits (you know the tube ones) and sausage gravy out of a can LOL.

*Disclaimer - I have since learned to make my own sausage gravy since the canned stuff was disgusting, however, I still can't bake a decent biscuit to save my eternal soul. If the mention of biscuits from a tube and canned gravy has made any of our southern born members scream in agony, faint, throw up or swear to hunt me down....well...ummm...sorry about that folks!*

Well, I called my Grandma..Granma. Everybody called my Grandpa, Poppy or Pop. But I couldn't say Poppy so until I was about 4 he was Peepop. lol...

My step father is from West Virginia and he called his Mom and dad, Mammy and Pappy.

My kids call their Gradfather Papaw. They used to call my Mom, Mamaw but about a few years ago they started calling her Granma.

Fried okra is the bomb! If I don't feel like cooking it, I run to Church's Chicken and just pick some up. All fried okra is not equal, the breading has to be crisp. Frozen okra - well, I don't do frozen fried okra.

And I love okra in my beef stew. And pickled okra? Oh my - Santa always leaves me my own jar in my stocking each year!

I don't make my own biscuits either, Joanna - 'tis ok. Best store bought gravy is from the powdered starter, IMHO. Of course, gravy naturally leads you to chicken fried steak smothered in it!

My father's parents we called Mother Sunny and Granddaddy. My mom's parents we called Moe and Poe (Moe is my only surviving grandparent now, she's 96 years old and still has a brilliant mind!)

as for some football, i've officially been converted to a serious fan. i've got to go to the sport's bar now so i can watch all the games at once (wow, i never thought i'd say that and mean it!).

I agree! Scrapple is soooo YUM-O!

    I love it!

and I am just rooting for the New England Patriots...I am a die hard Bears fan but since their year is pretty much shot...I chose the Pat's.

    Tom Brady...

    and....he isn't a bad QB either.
