Do you live in Texas? Read Now

I am posting this from kingsnake.com.

This is very important to everyone.

Please read and take action as soon as you can. The full post is below.

    Steve Hammack

We are sending this email to everyone we know, whether inside or outside the state of Texas regarding ownership, possession or transporting venomous snakes or live constrictors not indigenous to this country. Please take a few moments to read over this and send it to as many herpers that you know. Also, please start sending emails, letters, etc. to the folks involved in this House Bill 1309. Addresses are listed below. And be sure to copy us on it so that we can take all the papers with us when we meet with the committee in Austin. If you find articles in the local newspapers, or any other journal source, please send us the link. We need to work quickly on this.

Here is the link to where the info came from the thread was dated 3-14-07

Even better, here is the state information on the bill:

    Texas House Bill 1309

Note that while it has already passed the house, and seems to be headed in the same direction in the senate, it is a revised version that requires a license for a set of specific species instead of the original "a live venomous snake or live constrictor that is not indigenous to this country."

Well, I sent e-mails to all of the addresses listed there. Hopefully this doesn't go through.. or at least is modified to be reasonable.

Wow. This would affect not only TX herpers.. but anyone who sells/ships them to TX as well. And I agree.. if it starts there.. it'll spread everywhere. Now we are going to be treated like criminals for owning our snakes? I swear, there are days that my snakes are one of the few reasons I even get out of bed in the morning. I am so sick and disappointed from reading this.

I couldn't agree more on that.

Why don't we go after real issue's in this country?

I am 100x's more at risk driving on the roads in this country and being killed.

100x's more at risk of being shot, stabbed, murdered or injured by another human.

100x's more at risk of dying or being injured by numerous other variables but no....we go after snakes.

Bills, and laws like this make me wonder why I sing the national anthem.....love this country but hate the people in charge.

So that did NOT go through?

    Both of them?

    Thanks for doing something!
