Thinking of an ATB need some help

I am thinking of getting an ATB because I would really like having tree dwelling snake. Ive doing some resarch but still need to know some things. Like, how big do they get and what size cage would an adult have to be housed in? And, I have about 200 dollars to spend. Would that be enough for a whole setup (snake included) if not I would be willing to spend a little extra.

another tree weling snakes a gtp's their very cool i like gtps better then any etb,atb,atb, or any tb but if you want a atb look on kingsnake i seen a cupple thier tom cruchfield has some you might wanna look him up

yes, I would definatly choose a GTP over an ATB but sadly do not have that kind of money

well a juvinile from a no name breeder or a reptile shop will usually cost around 300 i got my jayapura type chondro for 300$ at ben siegals reptiles and mine looks really nice i think etb's cost around 250$not sure but maybe and for cageing i would get a special made cage for humidity if ya get the chondro and for a etb im not soo familiar with soo look up on kingsnake and yahoo on etb's and see what you find

I think im leaning twords an ATB because ive heard you can get them for under 100$.

They can get up to 7' in length but most of the ones I've seen tend to max out between 4 and 5'. An adult would need a minimum of a 24" cube (24x24x24)

I would encourage you to go with something other than a glass cage (as you have stated in other posts). First, glass cages typically do not meet the vertical height requirement needed by an arboreal species. Second, it is significantly more difficult to maintain the correct ventilation and humidity levels in a glass tank. Lastly, ATBs are very alert and aware animals - being in a glass box with people and potentially other animals strolling by could be asking for stress related eating and shedding problems.

Several cage manufacturers, Reptile Basics, Repti-Racks, Boaphile, etc. make ABS/PVC/HDPE cages especially designed for arboreal species. It is also possible to buy a plastic Rubbermaid, Sterilite, Iris or even Container Store tub that is dimensionally suitable to an ATB.

If you opt for a cage, it's going to set you back at least $150 for a PVC model, considerable less for a tub. Getting the proper temperature gradient, enclosure furniture, temperature control equipment etc. will cost probably an additional $100 or so. In other words, I think your budget is on the low side.

ATB's can be really awesome if you get them as babies and handle them a LOT. This is my big baby boy. I handle him like a cornsnake:





Garden phases, such as Beech there, are inexpensive if you get it from a known breeder and not a pet store. Most pet stores jack up their prices and sell low quality animals. They are quite often farm bred or wild caught as well.

If you don't handle them a lot, they have a tendency to be quite nippy and want to bite anything moving. She's cocked and ready to strike, lol:




Colored ATB's are going to cost more with colored patternless costing the most. Reds and blacks are some of the more expensive along with the *oddball* morphs like candy cane, etc.

They can be tricky to handle sometimes, but a lot of fun.
