Re: Big Breeders Pushing Their Weight

The Peoples Republic of Kalifornia has many laws that are far more restrictive than anywhere else in the US for many things ( firearms, automobile emissions etc). I would suspect that they may well have laws that discourage promoters from setting up herp shows ( though I admit I really don't know one way or the other). Because California is a State with a generally nice overall climate it would be a natural for such shows. There is the NARBC Annaheim show as previously posted. Maybe it is not cost effective for some reason if there are not many shows.

Re: Big Breeders Pushing Their Weight

I don't see why breeders cant "ban" to bring in shows. I mean my local store and the other herp stores are attempting to bring one to my area.

We used to have one once a year in my state, but do to a bunch of fish and game laws they werent allowed to host it anymore
    Crazy bout balls!!!

I live in NC too, and wish we had more shows. I've actually never been to a reptile show, i wanted to go to the last one in Raleigh, but for some reason missed it and didn't think of it until two days too late. Oh well. I think our next one is in May? Man i can't wait (just to say i been to one.) If its not big enough or cool enough i guess I'll march down to Daytona. Hell enough NASCAR fans make that pilgrimage. I guess an avid herper like myself can make it. Oh and GO WOLFPACK!!!

Yes, the show in Raleigh is on May 3-4. Google 'Raleigh Herp Show' and you will find the link witht he vendor list and what not. It seems to be growing, the list for spring is certainlly larger than it was last year. you should definitely come, it is a blast!

    Go NCSU Wolfpack!

Re: Big Breeders Pushing Their Weight

Pat, I've been going to Anahiem for years and it has never been canceled? It' the biggest show in Cali. There are a couple of other shows in Pomona in the Pomona fairplex. I think there should be one this December? I will check on that I have been real busy.

    Where are you located?

Wrong show...IRBA is the bimonthly-ish show held in Pomona and San Diego. NARBC happens once a year in Anaheim and is the California "big show". Unfortunately, it's just far for a lot of the big BP breeders like VPI, RDR, NERD, etc. to attend...although I did get to meet Amir (Serpents at Sunset, right?), Gus from Rio Bravo (he's FUNNY!) and Kathy Love there one year...and I think BHB was there...hard to remember, we didn't go the last 2 years.

We went to IRBA once in Pomona and once in SD. I guess if I were going for something specific regularly, but otherwise...*shrug*. Although, it was cool to meet Robert Applegate as I'm a fan of his. =)

Re: Big Breeders Pushing Their Weight

    Agreed.

I don't think Anahiem has ever been cancelled. NARBC is the biggest show in California every Sept. Granted, not ALL of the big breeders go, but I have met BHB, Amir, TSK and a few others at Anahiem the past couple of years.

IRBA, on the other hand, was cancelled for this December... They show in San Diego and in Pomona. Rather small show, and most vendors that I know have found it to be declining.

I think that there are also new shows popping up here and there, but I have yet to attend.

There are shows here in Cali, you just have to wait for them!

P.S. Cassandra, VPI (The Barkers) were there last year, they just didn't have a booth. I met them!
