i just noticed that my blood feels very hard the last 3-4 inches of his body he is only about 3 or 4 months old and has never defecated for me only when i took him to the vet about a month ago for RI the vet made him defecate but i am just worried and it feels kinda crunchy if that makes since (possible urates maybe???) and the last 3/4 inch at the vent is very hard could it just be that hes gonna leave me a surprise pretty soon or is it possible impaction?? thanks,

well. if you just noticed it, i would prolly wait a day or two just to see if he does poop. try maybe soaking him in warmish water to soften up the vent area. anyone else back me on this?

Could it be possible that he has a distended bowl, or a twisted bowl? It may be worth getting an x-ray to confirm. I don't want to worry you, but going so long without a bowl movement isn't a good sign. I agree that trying to soak him in some warm water might help. I've read that snakes like to make #2 in water.

i agree that it is a long time to go with no poop. but if it were a twisted bowl i dont think that i would be so close to the vent, i might be wrong

It is not uncommon for young pythons to go for several weeks, even months without defecating.

Depending on what they are being fed, if they are going through a growth spurt or if they are getting ready to shed - all of these may affect their bowel movements.

I have had young snakes go up to 5 or 6 weeks without a movement.

Before panicking, let him go for a swim in a few inches of water - if there is anything in there, it should act as a laxative.

    Re: impacted?????????????

My guy is going on 2 and a half months without pooing. He hasn't passed any urates since then either. But let's some liquid go like once a week.

He's looking like he's getting ready to shed soon. So maybe he'll poo then.

But its not uncommon for bloods to go months without pooing. I'm not concerned with my guy. But if you are with yours. Try soaking. Or even fill a big tub with some warm water. And make him "swim" so to speak. Keep an eye on him for a few minutes. Should do the trick.

I believe kara said that somewhere.

    Re: impacted?????????????

It's true, it is not uncommon for bloods to go months without defacating. If your due for a shed soon, you could wait till then. If it worries you, and your snakes seems listless, a trip to the vet is in order.

The barkers are the ones that recommended a swimming if you want your blood to defacte. I will find the article and link it.

    here is the article

Here's how Jade was doing, to put some perspective on how much they can hold.
    8/24, 540 grams
    10/3, 813 grams
    10/23, defecate
    11/1, 688 grams

120 gram duece. It was monumental.
