Crime Fighting Alligator
interesting...
SWEETWATER, Fla. — A man was killed by an alligator on the Miccosukee Indian Reservation in Miami-Dade County.
The man, who has not been identified, was running from Miccosukee police when he dove into a retention pond. There, he was reportedly attacked by the gator and bitten several times.
The man was suspected of breaking into cars with another suspect on the Miccosukee Indian Reservation, Local6.com reported. One was quickly captured.
The man's body was found at the bottom of the pond Friday. The man was bitten on the head several times, Local10.com reported. The gator was later trapped.

And killed.
Apparently there is a law that any gator that kills a human in the state of florida has to be put down.

is that a way to keep the population under control? or they just do it for retaliation?

Re: Crime Fighting Alligator
I think it has more to do with the idea that if the gator was close enough to attack a human, then it was probably used to being around humans, and therefore would not be afraid to attack again. It's odd logic, I dunno. My dad used to be a Wildlife Officer or whatever they're called nowadays for the state of Florida. He used to bring home gators all the time and move them to other places in the state. I remember one time he brought home 2 babies and a mom gator, left the mom in the back of his pickup and put the two babies in our turtle tank. He told me not to tell mom they were in there and that he'd be right back! -lol- He needed to move the older gator first and was waiting for instructions on where to put the babies. I guess he knew mom wouldn't have liked gators in the house!

thats the logic... once a gator attacks it's considered more likely to attack again and is euthanized or relocated, depending on the county i believe.
