Weighing...

a lil more info. place your snake into a tub or bucket or pretty much anything that will hold them before weighing, then weigh said tub empty. the diffrence is the snakes weight.

yes i know, everyone knows this ( i hope) just posting it for those whom are unsure who might be trying to hold a snake ontop of a scale or try to keep them from slithering away while your waiting for a reading

I too have a digital kitchen scale but it only goes up to 2400g. I used that one for a few years now i use some cheap kicthen scale not digital it does the job but sucks. Soon as i can get around to it im going to order the 7000g digital from Reptilebasics. Looks like a great scale and the prices isnt bad either. If you can id save some money and just go with the 7000g digital scale from them.

Funny thing, Steve, I was told these scales go through batteries fast so you need the AC adapter. I've had the same batteries in mine since I got it and it doesn't seem to use up batteries at all so I never bothered to buy the adapter. How's yours that way?

Jo, I've had my scale for about a year. Still on its first set of batteries. I don't have an adapter for it. Tying it to a wall would cause problems for me!

Yep ours too Steve. I haul it between three rooms....the ball python room (they have their own room, spoiled brats LOL)....the livingroom where the boas and the milksnake live...and upstairs to the master bedroom aka the quarantine room. I've never had to replace the batteries either and a cord would be a hassle for me too.

How do you weigh a snake....

Dig out weigh scale, knocking 6 other things off the shelf, mutter to yourself about finding time to tidy the snake room supply closet someday.

Weigh six small snakes who co-operate perfectly.

Take a deep breath and get out the REALLY BIG plastic bowl for the adult female ball pythons.

Haul out the biggest female (may as well get her done first), spend the next five minutes trying to convince her that ball pythons should really BALL the heck up! Attempt to stuff various fat coils into the bowl.

Scribble a note to yourself to get a bigger bowl!

Haul what's left of the snake out of the bowl, forget about her tail and then go retreive the bowl that she tossed away with that tail you just forgot about.

Wipe brow.

Mutter various cuss words left best unsaid here. Ponder just "eyeballing" her weight but decide it's too close to breeding time to do that. Go back to stuffing various bits of snake into the bowl. Take a moment to wonder how in heck people like Kara or Adam deal with this!

Quickly get a weight, put the snake back into her enclosure, watch snake give you what you are sure is an evil smirk.

Contemplate doing your son's boa which is even more difficult to weigh and just give the heck up until your husband is home! LOL

(note: Mike was home today and helped me weigh the entire collection....takes less than half the time when he's here to wrangle the bigger snakes )

ahaha.. Joanna.. that is hysterical. I've had a few of those wrangling issues with my adult corn (cant compare to a full grown female BP, but the principals the same) who doesn't want to go into his weighing box. I can imagine the fun when I get bp's.

I use a digital scale from Walmart that weighs up to 5 pounds. It can be set for grams or ounces, though I use grams, since most BP weighers seem to.
If I have a particularly active snake (like my boa) I will use a snake bag to put it in for restraint. I get the weight of the bag beforehand though and just subtract it off.

My wife bought one of these for $11 from a closing out sale from Benix & C0.

its good up to 6.6 lbs it runs on a 9Volt. It also does has a Tare option so you place a bowl on it, press the tare button and it subtracts the weight of the bowl for you.
