Oh man, I am sorry. I know from personal experience how tough this can be.
Ditto what they ^^ said. Sending healing vibes.
The best thing you can do, is continue to the best friend you can be right now. Give lots of love and support.

Whoa, I am sorry to hear about that. It is rough going.. I am glad though that your friend was saved in time and now there is the potential for healing and talking and re-assuring them that life is worth living. I had a friend who almost did that as well. I actually walked in on her doing it at a time when she thought no one would be home..
I hope that things turn out well for him.

Re: Terrible turn of events...
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers...it's been a long day, i just got back a little ago from the hospital, his mom is there now, he's coherent...his mom kissed him like he was a little kid i can't even imagine what it must feel like for a parent to hear that your child whose in college tried to do something like that...anyways he's stable when i went into his room he gave me a hug and thanked me for saving his life...this is what happened, i was in class debating if i should go to my second class or not and i decided not to so i was walking back with my roomate to my our room and we saw our friend and he seemed really out of it, thank God he told us that he swallowed pills (he was drunk at the time) so i tried to chase him down cuz he was incoherent and not making any sense, i finally talked him out of going home and my roomate ran back to our room got his car and we drove him to the hospital...they gave him charcoal i think that's what it's called and now he might stay in psychiatric ward for a few days...i'll let you guys know.

Re: Terrible turn of events...
James, I'm very glad to read your friend has survived this and will hopefully get some help through the hospital's psych department. Please encourage this young man to continue to get support through ongoing counselling. Drinking and swallowing pills in the middle of the day was an incredibly dangerous activity and he very easily could have died had someone not found him in time.
Yes as a parent I can tell you this is one of the greatest things we fear, that one of our kids would do this in a moment of despair. My gut clenched when I read about his poor mom at the hospital.
Please encourage your friend to not be embarrassed or ashamed about this suicide attempt but rather to use it to figure out why he would feel so bad about this girl. Many people fight depression or crisis, some choose to deal with it this way but most get through it and with help or even medication go on to live good lives and find the right person that will love them. I would encourage you and all this young man's friends to show him lots of support, keep him away from the booze and pills and partying and help him remember why life is so very, very precious. Don't let anyone hassle or tease him, just be the good friends you are and stand by him while he works his way back from the darkness.
