My New Children's Python

Looks like we both have variations- mine's a granite phase, but I like your hypo- sorta peachy color.

A lot of people don't like the faded pattern of the Children's. They prefer a high contrast. Not me. I like the Children's more subtle pattern. I also love the reddish color. To be honest, though, I don't know it's genetics.

I've seen some with a bolder pattern & I like that also, but to be honest, I think they're all attractive in their own way. I'm way more into their personality, & it helps to remember that it's their natural patterns that help them stay hidden & survive in the wild. Just pulled the trigger on this baby.



He's a sub-adult. Currently weighs in at 81 grams. I should get him in 4 to 6 weeks. So, so, so excited.

Thanks for the article. I agree he looks hypo, more red than brown, but looks weren't my primary reason for going with a Children's. First I decided to go with an Antaresia. I hear they are feisty. I admire that. I'm intrigued by how aware they are reported to be, how they notice and respond to their environment. I expect they are a joy to watch. I also like that they are semi-arboreal. I look forward to watching him explore the different levels of his surroundings. They are also hardy and easy to care for. Ready feeders and tolerant of wide range of temperatures and humidity. Of the Antaresia, I did like the look of the Children's the best. The Pygmy/Anthill was too expensive anyway and the Spotted was too big. So, looks played a small role, but the Children's other traits were more important to my decision.

In my excitement, I neglected to ask the seller some important questions that I probably should have asked before I put down my non-refundable deposit. The seller included some information in his ad (here). What else do I need to know? I came up with the following: hatch date, enclosure description, and heath issues (past and present). I also intend to ask him about the snake's most recent shed and meal, but since the snake won't be delivered until March, I'll hold off on those questions. Thanks.

They list him as "normal" but to me he looks "hypo"? They might not know his exact DOH if their source never specified & if they didn't bother to ask. Wise to hold off on shipping AT LEAST until March, since they're up in the "frozen Northeast"- shipping in winter adds risk.
