Getting a baby burm next week
Long time lurker, I created this account specifically because I need to share my excitement and hope to connect with other keepers.
To preface, I have been keeping reptiles for 17 years. I never thought I could have a giant snake due to space. Well, my partner and I just bought a property in desert country and this baby will have a 10x10 outdoor enclosure as an adult (as well as an indoor for winter)
I’ve done a lot of research and settled on a male Burmese python. I love retics as well, but from what I’ve seen the males just don’t always have the best attitude once they reach maturity. Also, I am a relatively smaller female, and while my partner will be around for handling, we’re more comfortable with a male- yes, he’ll still get huge, but not 18 ft 200lbs huge lol
Were thinking of naming him Jamal. It means beauty and he is beautiful but it’s also funny because he has a derpy face. He’s coming next week after the crazy holiday weekend is over.
I’ll post a pic as a reply here since I’m still learning how to navigate the forum.

I'm sure I speak for others too when I say we look forward to meeting "Jamal" (or-?) & hearing more about your adventures with him. Lurk no more!
(I don't personally "do" giant snakes but some others here do.)

He's got a real unique look, & yes, I have to agree, a "derpy face", lol. Whatever you name him is up to you- he won't care anyway.

I'm so envious. When I retire, I'm moving someplace warm so I can build monstrous outdoor enclosures.
