    I hear ya! Corn snakes make wonderful almost always-calm pets, & also stay a more modest size too. But for those who crave some excitement, there are options.

    Many US rat snakes got a bad reputation when pet stores tried selling wild-caught specimens (many years back) & sadly, most do NOT deserve that reputation now. But many TX leucy-rat snakes still do, from what I've read? Some US rat snakes have always been calm too- like Baird's or Trans Pecos- you'd like them.
