The San Diego Zoo and Sea World San Diego offer, or at least used to offer all kinds of behind the scene tours and one on one education.
The Zoo would even have special sleep overs in the shark tunnel for birthday parties and such. They also have/had special breakfast/brunch programs with animals as well.
25-30 years ago I did a few behind the scene tours with my family at Sea World SD. We did the Arctic Fox tour to see Boris and Natasha. And we did one with the Walrus and also the, sorry having a blonde moment; I can’t remember the name of the dolphin/small whale that has a huge forehead.
