tips on switching from mouse to rats
Hello everyone! I recently acquired a couple ball pythons. Their both sitting at around 450 grams. Both were on small mousers but one was on frozen/thawed and the other was live. I have read to use "tough love" on them and not give in to any more mice as long as they have good body condition/weight. For juveniles/subadults, what is considered enough weight to let them go on a hunger strike? I am going to try the "used mouse bedding" trick to see if that works. Should I try live weaned rats first and then f/t? let me know.
Thanks

There is no reason in hell those snakes should be on small mice! Do you own any other bp’s? Also I’m sorry for my reaction.

Yes try weaned rats. It’s always better to feed a python an appropriate sized meal. 10-15% of there body weight. Weigh your snake since you are new then weigh your feeders. It’s a good start. Husbandry is number one though...(looks at the bp forum)😁

I also misread your post. Weaned rats are good!

Realistically, it depends on you. If you're trying to switch them over to rats, you can probably experiment with doing F/T and see how they will do. As long as they're not losing weight you should be ok.

Re: tips on switching from mouse to rats
I know their not supposed to be on large mice! I am the new owner and am also aware of what size to feed my snakes lol I have done my research. However, just trying to see the best way to get a ball python to switch from live and frozen thawed mouse to f/t rat all together in the safest way, which is why I threw the body weight in there. Was trying to figure out if switching 450g snakes is an ok body weight to make the switch or wait a little longer?

I’m starting to become a product of this forum. Sry for that. I got guys hollering at me about there 30 years of xp. Yet they only own 5 snakes.
Its fine. I would recommend blow drying the f/t after thawing. Heat up that head and offer on tongs. They should take it

Easy there. Quantity of experience does not equal quality of experience. Just because you acquire 15 snakes in 4 months does not mean your quantity is superior to someone who’s kept 10 snakes of various species over 25yrs. That’s not a product of the forums, that’s a product of your mind running faster than your feet

I acquired 4 in 4 months. I’ve also watched you in these forums go full aggression on these forums. Which is more my point. You literally jumped to a conclusion a month ago. I explained myself. Never heard from you. Also the fact that you chimes in a month ago and now jumped in with aggression asking me if I have 15-20 snakes now is a joke! If you are going to chime in! Do it without aggression! You are not doing anyone a favor!! You don’t even have a concept!
