It's definitely subjective, but $1000 for just a pet can be absolutely worth it. Personally, I've been in the horse world my whole life before getting into snakes so in comparison that feels like a great deal for an animal that I'm really passionate about and dedicated to. My mare was adopted for cheap from a rescue but her baseline monthly care costs far more than that of even a very hungry snake... and let's not talk about the regular vet bills... so I'll happily pay that much upfront for my dream snakes and say "hey, at least I'm not getting more horses!"

(I'm very glad that I don't have kids and don't intend to, so all my spare money can just go to animals instead of a college fund... my wallet hates my hobbies.)
