Feeding More Than One Fuzzy

Hopefully we are talking rats here and not fuzzy mice ?? ....

... I was going to try and use them up first before buying rats...

Pretty safe bet we're talking about mice... But never hurts to make sure...

So according to the chart, Gargamel should be eating approximately 100 g per feeding. Since I have frozen fuzzies, I was going to try and use them up first before buying rats. That being said, I should feed him more than one at a time. How long betwee&n fuzzies should I wait to offer another?

Based on the pic of your snake https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...-Meet-Gargamel!! what is highlighted is physically IMPOSSIBLE, even a large adult Male would not need a 100 gram rat, 85 at most.

Your snake at this time need a prey no bigger than it's girth size.

Wow. Yeah. I second that. I think you did something wrong in your math to come up with 100g for that little cutie. How much does he weight? As a helpful idea some recommend 10 - 15% of body weight of the snake. So take the weight of snake X .10 and weight of snake X .15 and feed something weighting in that vicinity. Also going by the girth as Deborah states. Your snake would have to be 1000g or so to need a meal that size.

I’ve never had very young Royals but always thought that they started out on small mice and never anything smaller ??

Yeah I found that out about a week after I bought him. This is my first and I didn't know any better lol. I bought this from a pet store and that's what they said they've been feeding him. I've learned a lot from the forum in the last couple of weeks that's for sure!

That's why we're here...pet stores often under-feed their snakes: it saves them $ but mostly they don't want the snakes out-growing the little display cages they have
them in...and they also know most buyers prefer to buy young (small) snakes, just like puppies & kittens are typically considered cuter, versus adult dogs & cats.

FYI- ball pythons have fairly big heads & relatively wide bodies, so hopper mice (small, eyes open, just weaned) are the appropriate size prey even for hatchling BPs.
Unless you can get them to take comparably-sized rat fuzzies (eyes closed). The only hitch with hopper mice is that with eyes open, they may bite back...and many
snakes won't start off feeding on f/t, in which case fuzzies (eyes closed, either rats or mice) are the safer choice. Hopper mice (live) can be also quite active, & many
BPs may hesitate to take them, especially for a first feeding, but you never know. Their instincts are to eat, but in the wild they presumably don't have humans hanging
about watching & making them nervous either.

Thankfully it doesn't look like he's malnurished. I'm going to try to feed him two f/t mouse fuzzies tonight and see how it goes
