The other day I was having lunch with a friend and telling her about a book I've been listening to, and some shows I've been watching. I was thinking it's such a gift to have the time to do that, to have ME time again.
In the past 18 years I have raised two kids (including one who was very sick for her first 6 years and could not be left with sitters). I went to nursing school, then got a full time job, then at one point five years ago I was working *and* getting my Bachelor's in Science *and* being a mom *and* going through a divorce.
Life is still busy but now I am able to carve time out to read, watch TV, knit socks, and have lunch with friends, and even attend an occasional concert or take a weekend trip.
What enables me to have that time? Things like my super capacity washing machine and dryer, a car to zip me around, on-line shopping, and frozen food and microwaves. We are truly privileged, even those of us are of modest means. I have traveled and lived in India and boy are we lucky.
Getting back to the original theme of this thread:
My smartphone helps organize my life and stay in touch with people. And take photos.
Hulu/Netflix/Youtube is how I watch TV. I especially love documentaries!
Audible is great-- I can "read" a book while driving, folding laundry, or going for a walk.
Internet-- it has served a big role in my life since my child was born sick and I was able to connect with other moms all over the world for support. It helped me not feel alone. And then to find a bunch of snake enthusiasts here! :-)
