Ha, she looks like a very happy camper! Most rat snakes just love to climb & hang out in high places...guess they feel safer, and maybe to catch birds too?

Anything we can add to their cages like this is "enrichment" & gives them more opportunity to do what they'd do in the wild, plus it makes them more fun to
watch. We have a number of great thrift stores around my town, & they've always got a great selection of baskets for CHEAP $. Some of the ones I got had
handles that got in the way for where I wanted to install them, so I just cut the handles off... I use short pieces of coated & fairly stiff wire to attach them
in their cages (to the branches), & they can easily be removed & re-positioned any time I want to. Zip ties work well too, but then you have to cut them off &
    use new ones.

Nothing wrong with using clean boxes for snakes either...I do that often for certain snakes that need some custom 'furniture'. And you KNOW it's a hit when
you see them using your new ideas... These kind of changes might stress some snakes (like BPs?) but rat snakes are active hunters, I think it really gives
them something to do & has a positive benefit. They learn by exploring & get more confident too.
