Re: went to Scott Smith's All-Animal Expo!

some small stories from the show:

at the Pangea Reptile counter: i happened to walk by the purchase counter and overheard a lady asking why she couldn't find heat rocks. i literally couldn't help but scrunch up my face and the guy behind the table obviously noticed lol. he proceeded to tell the lady they were notoriously dangerous and pretty much no one sells them. that was nice to hear!

Savage City Pythons, where i got my 1.0 Pastel Bamboo: as i was talking to the owner, his son was front and center talking to customers. he had a sub-adult beep out and told his dad "im going to sell him!" his dad encouraged him and said go walk around. i came back later to pick up my animal and the guy said his son had sold the snake. i was honestly so impressed lol. gotta start them young!

also at the Savage City table: when i finally told the guy i wanted to take him, he looked around, looked at me and said "i actually forgot to bring bags." he was apologizing profusely and said to give him some time to run around to tables and get some, but a fellow vendor (turns out he's good friends with Matt Marberg, who i got my 0.1 B.Pastel from) just so happened to walk by and said "i got you ill be right back." it was so sweet and just a nice example of what this hobby is all about.

this show is such a cool experience.

Re: went to Scott Smith's All-Animal Expo!

LAST STORY; I STOLE A SNAKE!

    jk but here's what happened:

so like i said, Savage City being there caught me by surprise and even the owner was a bit excited and taken aback. i told him we've actually been talking through MM and he was just so excited to show the Pastel Bamboo off.

i finally come back and say i want the snake. we shake hands, he bags the snake.

i tell him im going to keep wandering and ill pick him up later; no worries.

i come back, pick up the snake, we shake hands, and i walk away.

    notice something missing?

    uhm, I NEVER PAID!!!

i was 5 minutes into my drive home and realize, and IMMEDIATELY email him and ask for a PayPal address. he just emails back "oh holy ****" and just his address. i tell him im driving and ill do it first thing when im home. i tell him thank goodness im an honest person.

    i almost stole a snake!!!

Mazel Tov tttaylorr! Awesome new additions.

I bought Shayna from Mark Petros. He's a good guy and I've had zero issues with Shayna. She's 6 years old now and doing fantastic.

Nice shot of those Boas. Oh yeah, tell me again why you don't have an AWEOME BOID yet!

dude, i was literally telling the kid at Color Crazed Constrictors (the kid running the boa table pictured above) that everyone keeps telling me this. i even asked the kid what he thought, and (being a kid) he just said they're so amazing and his favorites.

TBH, and im sure ive told you this before, but the only boa i truly drool over is a Dumerils.

EDIT: Petros is the man, and that's so awesome you got Shayna from him!!!

Actually not sure you have told me that about Dumerils. I am like an elephant, I never forget - FYI!

I hear they are awesome, but I have no experience with them. BCC and BCI are remarkable to me. I love the coloration of a true red tail, hence having Feliz, who also has a killer personality. By "killer" I mean chill as can be while still be inquisitive and curious, etc. He's a total sweetheart. He's only 145G now, and I've had him about 6 weeks, and we've been doing gentle handling sessions for about 4, and he's already a total puppy dog. I would trust him with anyone at this point.

BCI's you can get practically any color or morph your heart desires, and if want the Boa personality, but not too big, get a male. They do not get much bigger than BP females if fed properly. If you want an impressive animal, but one that cannot and will not hurt you, or anyone else in your house, kids included, get a female. A 6FT or so female BCI that's 12 pounds or so is a truly beautiful and impressive animal, but hardly threatening.

I love both my Boas and I think that Boas are my favorite species now. Awesome personalities, beautiful, perfect adult size, if you can handle a BP temp and humidity wise, you can handle a Boa (all though you will need a bigger tank if you have a BCI female or a non-dwarf red tail like Feliz is). Oh, and they eat like clockwork.

I will say that Yafe (carpet python) is growing on me fast as well. He's got a great demeanor too.

If I ever add another animal to my collection, it will be another Boa, almost assuredly.

Mark was great when I bought Shayna. I had told him that I wanted a very tame/docile animal as I was getting back into snakes and my ex-wife (wife at the time) and never had anything other than a corn snake in the house and was nervous about a python. The other thing was I needed one that took F/T. Mark had four Albino Spider BP's there. He offered F/T to all of them and Shayna took it no problem, as did two others, easy. However, of the other two that took F/T, Shayna was the calmest and gentlest, so he sold me her. I couldn't be happier. I really appreciated the extra effort. I'll always put in a good word for Mark.

Re: went to Scott Smith's All-Animal Expo!

Hmmmm.....Names? Given your ‘mostly’ food theme, here’s a few of ideas.

Kraken (rum), Forest (black forest cake), Spice, Molly (molasses), Tuaca (Italian liqueur), Godiva, Chicory (as in chicory coffee or Hoodoo chicory liqueur)

Macchiato, Boodles (gin), Smoke (bbq anyone?), Avion (tequila), Snickerdoodle, Meringue, Amaretti (Italian cookie)

I started playing around with mixology last year and built quite a selection of liqueurs, hence the alcohol themed names. My apologies. lol

I know you just added two snakes and all, but you really wouldn't regret a Dumeril's. All of my "larger" snakes are female (because, well, go big or go home, right?) but here is why you should definitely jump on the Dumeril's train:

    1) They are the puppy dogs of the snake world, truly. Memphis is so easy going. She hangs out with me and likes to explore, but once she finds a comfy spot she just chills. For ages.

    2) Females get to be a good size but are slow growing so you have time to mentally adjust. Males are smaller but still impressive.

    3) Relatively straightforward and forgiving husbandry. Not too hot. Not too humid. They'll soak when they need to. I've offered Memphis a couple of substrates and it's fun watching her bury herself.

    4) They are beautiful and get better with age. They are also relatively cheap when you consider how crazy expensive some of the BCI morphs and other boa localities/subspecies can get.

    5) They have a really cool translucent chin patch!

    6) Good appetites, especially once established. I was told that Memphis would take F/T rat pups when we got her but that she preferred live. She's eaten F/T exclusively while in our care and has never missed a meal.

Sooo have I convinced you yet??? 😃

wait! quick Q: is the end of their tail really fat? and not tapered? i saw an adult Dum at the expo this summer and the tail looked like it was cut from a previous infection/injury but in photos of Dums i kinda see the same thing.

maybe @redshepard could answer this too lol.

    thanks you guys!
