    Suction cup issues

    Hi again everyone!

So I have a jumpstart thermostat to keep my heating mat in check, but the little suction cup keeps popping off randomly. I just don't want risk burning my snake, is there a better way to get the probe to stick to the glass bottom? Thanks in advance!

The probe should be outside the tank, sandwiched between the UTH and the glass.

It's not that it should be there, it's an option. It can also be inside.

You can use a little hot glue to hold it in place (or epoxy or something similar) or a zip tie onto the edge of something in the terrarium. Lots of options.

Fair enough. However, hot glue can break down over time, the probe can be laid on, peed on, etc...which can all cause inaccurate readings which can result in dangerous heat spikes.
Being sandwiched between the UTH and the glass it stays put and provides consistent readings

If a larger snake happens to pee over the probe, it will get wet and results in the probe reading a cooler temperature and thus turns on the heat mat beyond where it should be. This can result in burns, especially if the mess isn't cleaned up quickly.

Many people do it inside and are OK, but many of us here are not willing to take that risk with our animals, no matter how small that risk may appear. Many people can't afford a vet for a burn when an extra 2 minutes to put the probe outside can prevent any chance of up to hundreds of dollars of vet care.

O the outside of the tank in between the uth and the tank i would use aluminum tape to keep the probe on place this tape has worked well for keeping my probe in place

You could attach it another way but then the wire is a problem too. Mine is sandwiched but I've also got another temp sensor that I was moving around the enclosure to see what the readings were. It just ended up being something for her to mess with, tangle, and drag all over the place lol. In the very top corner was the only place I could put it and her leave it alone.

    Re: Suction cup issues

Thank you so much for information!

Will I be able to peel back the mat and stick it back on the tank? Or should I get a new heating pad to be safe?

Do I place the probe in the middle of the pad? Will the wire be alright if that's the case? ( Or should I wrap the wire with a certain tape?

Sorry for all the questions. I just want my snake to be happy and healthy!

You should be able to peel it back. I left mine on for a bit before I pulled it off. I think the warm adhesive made it easier to separate. I was able to re-stick it no problem as well. I didn't wrap the wire or anything. It won't get hot enough to be an issue.
