    Petroleum-based ointments can cause scale damage if used long-term and thus they are not ideal for reptiles.

    For topical wounds I prefer Vetericyn, which is a water-based gel. It also dries "dry" not goopy like Neo or Triple, so bits of substrate don't stick to it.

    Another alternative is silver sulfadiazine (silvadene); not sure if you can get it in Canada without a prescription.
