Quick question about heat pad with thermostat probe

I’ve also noticed that when it’s not sandwiched between, I get a far more accurate reading. When it’s on the outside, my thermostat is set at 88 and my temp gun inside the glass reads 90. When it’s sandwiched, because all that heat is contained around the probe, the thermostat is reading higher, like 105, but glass is reading 90.

If that makes any sense.
